I had a chick get her leg tangled up in a scratched up puppy pad (don't worry, I'm getting rid of them right now) and her foot is pretty swollen. Should I soak it in an epsom salt bath?
It's hard to see in the picture, the left one is more swollen that the other one and looks a bit discolored.
I bought three silver laced Wyandottes that were labeled as pullets. They all three seem to have a comb that is pinking up quicker than our other breeds, with pink wattles too. None of the other chicks that I've seen have wattles yet. Do we think they're all boys?? Too early to tell?

I have chicks that are almost 4 weeks old. We recently moved them from a pack n play brooder into a large camping tent in a different room of the house, and ever since the move, they have been huddling together in the opposite corner of the tent for warmth instead of using the brooder plate...
We have 10 three week old chicks that have been doing just fine in a pack n play brooder, but they're getting so big! I sent my husband an Amazon link to a tent and he said "hold on, I have a 3 person tent in the garage that I've only used once." Say less! I could easily fit several more birds...
A bit sloppy, but it's the best I could do on Microsoft Paint. We're using 4x4x10 ft posts as the corners and braces for our run, and we were planning on putting them about 3 feet deep into the ground and securing them with cement. My dad is an engineer, and he said that we need to put them 4...
What are we adding to our brooders for the babies to play with? So far I tossed a rather large stick from our yard in there, and a little roost for them to play with. I'm toying with tossing a chunk of sod from their outdoor run in with them soon. They're just over 2 weeks old.
We're about to leave the cute little baby stage, and enter the half-feathered ugly little bird stage. I'm eager to get to the point where we can tell how many of each gender we have. I have 6 pullets (I hope) and 4 straight runs. I'm bracing myself for the possibility of 5 hens and 5 Roos...
My chicks are a week old, and I gave them a small sprinkle of finely chopped herbs on top of their food this morning, along with a separate dish of chick grit next to it. Not a lot of herbs, literally just a dusting.
Someone on the BYC Facebook page said that they're way too young for that...
Edit: I flipped the brooder plate around! I'm apparently not the brightest. Thank you to the commenter who probably saved my chicks!
Instead of going out and buying a stock tank or a prebuilt brooder, I used an old pack n play that we had laying around. I lined the bottom with puppy pads and...
Has anyone use an old pack 'n play or playpen as a brooder? How did you cover it to avoid flyaways? We are done having babies and we have an old pack 'n play that we want to use. No sense in going out and buying a brand new brooder or building one if we can use what we already have.
We're...
We just bought an old farmhouse this summer. It came with this 12x14 ft chicken coop that clearly hasn’t seen any birds in years. I have a ton of work to do, and I’m not sure where to start in terms of the best materials to use or where to begin. I’m not very handy and I don’t want to rely...
Hello! New here. I'm a late 20s girl living in the Midwest with my husband of 5 years and our two young sons. We just bought a 130 year old farmhouse that came with an old chicken coop, 12x14. It looks like it hasn't been used in years. Holes in the wooden siding, metal roof that's falling...
