    Bougie Eggs O'The Day

Today and yesterday's pretties. Hopefully come spring I will start getting some speckles from my Silveruud's and Welsummers. These are all pullet eggs, except for one bantam Cochin egg. Otherwise my older girls are taking a winter break. The gorgeous egg tray I found on eBay.

    Double Silver Laced Barnevelders

I just hatched some Double Silver Laced Barnevelders and want to share them as they grow. I got my eggs shipped to me from Paragon Hatchery in Oklahoma and I can’t recommend them enough. I purchased 6 eggs and was sent 1 extra. The eggs were packaged well and shipped via UPS. All were...

How Do You Think She Will Turn Out?

Easter Egger (sold as “Americana”). I *know* she’s just a mutt, but I loved her coloring and have named her Daisy. I am thinking she is just about 4 weeks old. I am curious if anyone might have had a similar colored chick before and how it turned out as an adult? Thanks for any input :)

    Weird Feather Growth?

I have never had a chick feather out like this before, has anyone else? All of her new feathers are coming in long and rectangular. I’m hoping they normalize as she grows and goes through her baby molts but it looks so bizarre to me. She is a 4 week old Splash Blue Laced Red Wyandotte.

First Hatch: time-lapse of bantam Salmon Faverolles

I just hatched my first chicks from shipped eggs. 14 shipped during an unexpected heat wave. 3 never developed, and 2 had blood rings at 7 days, so 9 made it to lockdown. Ended up with 7 hatched so far, one egg must’ve quit right before lockdown but I didn't realize it and was quite pungent...

Midnight Majesty Marans - Loudest Chick EVER

I have an 8 week old Midnight Majesty Marans that was raised by one of my broody bantams. She is THE LOUDEST chick ever. She just yells, mostly in the evening at roosting time, but sometimes at random times during the day, and will only settle when I pick her up and cuddle her or she is...

    Opal Legbar Growth Thread

I’m going to post pics of my Opal Legbar here as she grows up. I hope this helps anyone who is looking for info on this pretty new breed that was originally developed by Candace Waldon. Unfortunately, I don’t know where my Opal came from as I picked her up at my local feed store. I assume a...

Broody Hen? Do I *need* to break the broody?

I have a cochin bantam who has gone broody and she has spent the past few days in the nest box. I take her out occasionally to forage around and eat something, and I have to take her out of the nestbox at night so she can roost in the coop because my other two hens want to stay with her and are...

    Your Favorite Nest Boxes?

What are your favorite nest boxes for larger chickens? I currently have HenHaus boxes, which are great because they are plastic and easy to clean, however, they are not very big and my big Orps are having some issues with them. My boxes are located inside my run. I am looking for 4-6 boxes...

White Crested Blue Polish Coloration Question

I picked up two 2/3 week old WCB Polish chicks today. One is definitely a dark blue, almost black, the other has a lot of white and I am curious if it will keep the white or if it will just end up a lighter grey? I realize the lighter one has a lot of chick down still, but the wing feathers...

    White Crested Blue Polish Age?

I picked up this Polish chick this weekend, s/he is supposed to be a pullet and 6 weeks old as of today, but s/he is pretty small and the crest doesn’t look anywhere nearly as poofy as photos of 6 weeks old chicks I have found online. I have never had a Polish before so I have no other...

    Silkie Guesses?

Just got this 5.5 week old partridge silkie chick and while I know it is really hard to sex at this age, just wondering if anyone has any feedback based on this comb. I am sending in a DNA test cuz I can’t keep is it’s a roo and I want to know sooner than later. I am worried it’s a roo. Thanks!

Scratch & Peck Now Contains Diatomaceous Earth In Their Feeds

I was looking through the Scratch & Peck offerings on their website and noticed that their 18% layer feed now contains DE, and I think other feeds from them do as well. My last S&P 18% layer feed bag that I got a few weeks ago from my local feed store did not have DE listed in the ingredient...
