My chickens have a mild case of lice, and I’ve been trying to treat it with various powders and a spray but they don’t go away, I’ve also treated the pen and deep cleaned
I just can’t reach all their feathers
And if I drip them in something their feathers suction and they don’t get wet
Got home and noticed all the feeders were empty, when I filled them up chickens were gorging themselves
And I noticed one of the boys was frothing from the mouth a bit and panting
He wears a collar which I instantly took off when this happened, but he’s been wearing it for several months with no...
I have a cockerel who has ear feathers matted with some kind of discharge, from what I can see it doesn’t look too bad, some brown gunk around the ear hole but no viable swelling or complete blockage, he otherwise acts normal but he’s kinda a goofy bird so hard to tell
Advice for treatment? If...
Her comb and wattles are bigger than my adult laying hens if the same breed now so I’m wondering if she’s close to laying, she’s also been inspecting nesting boxes
I came across a mouse in my chickens feed, but when I came near it it didn’t run away it just sat there
I poked it gently with a stick to see if it was alive and it slowly scuttled away, do you think there was something wrong with it? Should I do anything to secure the coop?
I’ve noticed some of my older hens going broody and I decided to let one sit on the eggs to see what happens
I want to test out the genetics of my white barred cockerel out of curiosity, he is the only one mature enough to try and mount the hens yet
none of my hens have ever hatched eggs before...
I have two cockerels who have slightly purple comb tips, no signs of respiratory or any other kind of distress, they seem perfectly healthy
What might this be?
I just posted the one with the most obvious purple
Edit: it’s currently summer so I know it’s not frostbite
I have a 18 week old Pekin bantam cockerel and I’m wondering what colour he is
When he was young he appeared buff mottled, then he lost his spots and now he looks like this
What colour is he?
My runty little pullet threw up some clear liquid, I’m assuming it was water, a lot of it too, then she seems totally fine
This has only happened once, something to worry about?
I’ve heard many things and I’m curious what I’ll actually get, I have a cockerel who (I think) is dominant white with a few barred feathers and some pure black pullets, what would I get off I crossed them?
And what would I get if I crossed him with the silvery hen pictured below?
He crows, mates and does all roostery things, so I’m curious as to why he still has rounded feathers at 17ish weeks old when my other has had them for over a month?
I added photos of the buff who has pointy feathers
Also a little side question why does my pure black pullet have one half blue...
I was checking the fertility of my eggs by making pasta and I noticed this one, the photo isn’t the best but there’s a circular white bit with a ring around it
We’re building a large secure fenced area for our birds, but our house isn’t big enough for them, has anyone got ideas on building a simple chicken house for 20 ish bantams? They also don’t fly and perch very high off the ground
So a while ago I posted a thread asking about which roosters I should keep, and you all told me to wait a while before deciding, I’d like to wait a little longer before a final decision but I need to separate some into a bachelor pen very soon, because my big buff cockerel went after my...
I have four hens and 7 soon to be laying pullets, I let my chickens free range and they have been laying in different spots every day, I have nesting boxes that they used to use, but don’t anymore
We have many bushes in the yard and they are really tricky to find the eggs, I have to crawl...
One of my girls has gone missing while free ranging this morning, last seen a couple hours ago, no signs of predator attack, no feathers pulled or loud sounds, I was home the whole time
She’s slow moving and can’t really fly
Our place has spots where she could hide but I can’t see her
Any tips?
