Opinions on which is best? Both are available at my local feed store. I have been feeding Egg Popper with Super Coop as “scratch.” They have free choice oyster shell and grit available at all times and get a small handful of BSFL when I call them in from free ranging most evenings. They also eat...
Hi all!
I feel like I’m asking questions every day. I promise to lay off…someday. Not today though!
I have what Hoover’s calls a Prairie Blue Bell that is 20 weeks old. She is part of 13 of that age and they are all starting to lay. Tonight, I walked into the run to see what is in the picture...
I have a 6 month old Buff Orpington who started laying less than a month ago. She is one of 6 BOs of that age and part of a mixed flock totaling 19. The other 13 are 20 weeks and just starting to lay. I have a large Hen Gear rollout box that, after adding bedding the first week, has been where...
Not sure where to post this so feel free to suggest a move to a different forum. I was wondering how you keep track of when eggs were laid and if anyone stamps their eggs. If so, does it affect the bloom? I assume it would which is why I am hesitant.
I’m so excited! She didn’t lay it in the nesting box but I suppose that will come with time. Any tips/tricks to make that happen would be appreciated but really I just wanted to celebrate a bit!
I’m unsure of breed as well. These were part of assortments from Hoover’s. I attached the invoice but I know there are inaccuracies. For example, I don’t have 6 of any one breed and have 2 that I assume are Black Copper Marans instead of 1 because they look identical. I appreciate any guesses...
We have been working on converting an old grain bin into a coop. It is small, 14 foot diameter, 8 foot walls. The chickens have 2/3 of the bin. The top is covered with plexiglass that has a half inch gap and we added a 4 inch pvc vent where there was a hole in the roof. There is also a gap where...
Are these the same breed and gender?
They were ordered from Hoover’s as part of an assortment of female, day old chicks. My invoice says I received one Lavender Orpington and one Lavender Wyandotte. It also says I have 1 BCM but I actually have 2 and that I have 6 Cream Legbars but I have 3...
I live in south central Illinois where we have had torrential rain recently and my run is very muddy. I am new to chickens, but not to life, so I worry about putting wood chips in against my rough sawn oak posts because of termites. The run is not set against the house or another wood structure...
I purchased 6 Buff Orpington chicks in December. They were three to four weeks old, according to the employee, making them 17 to 18 weeks old this week. One has more developed wattles and comb than the others.
This photo, although through the wire, shows how much more developed she is than the...
I have a 6 week old chick that I have been treating for coccidiosis with Corid water and drench. She is not showing any signs of improvement, still hunched and puffed and now shivering/shaking and poops are more watery/diarrhea like. She is eating and drinking, what I consider, a minimal amount...
I am very new to chickens and have one 6 week old chick that I don’t think feels well. We moved 14 of them into what we are calling The Hen Bin on Sunday. I noticed this one (pictures below) standing by herself, in this position, puffed up. When I reached for her, she took a few steps in the...
Hello All!
Long time reader (even before I took the plunge), first time poster! I have been anxiously awaiting the 6 week mark of development, hoping my chicks would be feathered enough for identification. I appreciate any replies!
I purchased 15, day old chicks from Hoovers Hatchery, delivered...
