I’m freaking out! My 2 day old Coturnix chick is being really lethargic, when he was moved to the brooder he could barely walk. His brother is freaking out. I don’t now what to do, Ive given him vitamin and put some gamebird crumble in his mouth. I don’t know what to do! Help!
This is my first hatch-a-long! I’m doing a pretty basic one, Halloween themed names, 5 eggs. The father is a BJG and then hens are, Sapphire Gem, White Leghorn, Gold Laced Wyandotte, RIR. 2 SG eggs, 1 WL egg, 1 RIR egg, and 1 GLW egg. The WL egg has already been named Casper, the RIR egg is...
Starting a new hatch! I’d love for some name suggestions, I want them to be spooky themed! I already have a cat named Winnie so the other 2 Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus are fine. (Yes I know Binx would’ve been a better name for him seeing as he’s a black cat) The father is a BJG and the...
I candied my quail egg this morning, it’s day 16 today and expected to not see much, maybe an internal pip or 2 but instead I found this? Btw I used a humidifier to make the closet the same humidity as the bator.
It’s some odd shadowing in the eggs that doesn’t have a fixed shape. Just in case...
So apparently my incubator was at 101 F for the first 13 days of incubation and I freaked out because I know that they develop faster at higher heats. I locked them down that night expecting some early hatches yesterday and today but there’s no sign of hatching. Did I mess up this whole hatch? :(
No chest feathers, biting, not puffing up, sitting on eggs for a couple hours then being off, not laying but not committing. I need her to commit so I can do the Halloween hatch-a-long! Anything I can do to help her?
I finally have a broody! But she has a couple of eggs under her and it’s not gonna be my full clutch for her but I don’t wanna risk breaking her. What should I do?
My quail hatch is on day 13 and I just found out that the temp was at 100.5 for god knows how long, I know that a small temperature difference is probably fine but I know that that could speed up development. Should I lockdown tomorrow just in case?
After reading this article https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/hatching-a-chick-in-a-cup-can-you-do-it-and-how.74440/
I’m going to try this! I’ll add updates to this thread and hopefully it works!
Edit: I’m doing this for a science fair so I can win the money to get a bigger coop!
I have a hen who’s borderline broodyish, she’s not siting completely and still laying but she has her stomach bare, like she’s feathered her nest. But she isn’t molting very much so maybe that’s what it is? Help!
Like I’ve said before, I only had 6 out of my 18 quail eggs fertilized, I dropped 1 while candling :( and the rest were unknown. Incandled today and ALL 5 were developing! Very excited!!!
I hatched a couple of chickens in January, Salty the BCM, Fugly the Naked Neck, Elvis the leghorn, Sexy the Black sexlink, and only Elvis has started laying last month. I know that they take a little bit but my last batch started hatching at the same time at around 6 months. Is this normal?
I’ve decided to hatch my quail and chickens together! My plan for the quail lockdown day is to move them to a different incubator at 100 F and 70% humidity while keeping my chicken eggs in my nurture right 360!
