    Icelandic Chickens

My flock's lines includes Behl's, Sigrid's, and Vala's importations. I have a lot of genetic & aesthetic diversity!

Thanks! "Poof" the little cockerel with the large, full crest is my favorite out of the current batch. I hope he makes some nice "poofy" babies!

I had 3 new Icies hatch yesterday and they all have rose combs!

    Icelandic Chickens

Hey Wee Acre Farm, I am in Ohio and would imagine that the line that Muddy Hoof obtained was from Behl's importation. To my best of my knowledge I do not know of anyone in Ohio that had Sigrid's importation in that time frame. You may wish to join and ask your question in the Icelandic...

    Ancona Ducks

toadbriar: What did you end up doing with the all-white ducks from your first hatch? Did you cull them or use any of them for breeding?

Possible Mycoplasma Galliseptum-Cannot find Vet to Test-Cull?

Culled them all. There is a swab test for MG. Culled my ducks too, even they probably won't show symptoms, they could be carriers and infect whatever new birds you bring in. I only hatch eggs or order day olds and will never bring in an adult bird. Good luck.

    Ancona Ducks

You can tell by their quack too if they are drakes or ducks(is that the correct term for a female duck? just duck?). The females quack, and the males sorta sound "hoarse".

    Icelandic Chickens

Why don't you keep both until they mature a little more? That way if one turns out to be a big jerk, you'll have a back up. They are both beautiful and who ever you decide to keep will make gorgeous offspring.

    Ancona Ducks

I had to wait quite awhile for my partial refund too, probably a month or so. I wanted really bad to have a good experience with them, because I love that they are preserving so many breeds of poultry and of seeds. But they failed. You are right ChristineR. Completely inhumane, I will not...

    Ancona Ducks

I think they are both Pekins too, they have both have thick necks. Honestly, they should have canceled my duck order all together, and I would have neen totally cool with that! At least I wouldn't have put time and money into substandard stock. Oh well, I had issues with another oder from...

    Ancona Ducks

Ok, well here are some shots of my "Ancona" ducks from Sand Hill. Obviously, the black/white one is Ancona. The other 2 white ones are a bit bigger then her, one is female and one is male. They either are both white Anconas or one is a Pekin and one is a Ancona. What do you all think? I...

    Icelandic Chickens

Thanks all! Joyous, you have such a great variety, I am sure what ever roos you decide to keep will produce more beautiful birds(how can they not!). And that 'self blue' pullet is stunning! Icelander, I am pretty sure that Glámur was the head roo with your ladies while he was around. Even...

    Icelandic Chickens

Here are pics of the chicks hatched from Icelander's eggs! They are all so dark, I absolutely cannot wait to see how they develop. I am thrilled with this hatch, being my first time incubating, 4 out of 7, from shipped across the country eggs, not too bad! Thank you Icelander for sharing...

    Ancona Ducks

Oh, I am pretty sure they are straight white, I had silver before and I could still see some sort of shading. It is possible that one single feather might come out a color, I am not holding my breath though. I would have rather had a refund then send me mostly all white Anconas. I figured I...

    Ancona Ducks

So here's a weird question: How would you tell the difference between an all white Ancona and a Pekin? Why I ask? I ordered 5 Ancona ducks from Sand Hill Preservation, apparently they were having issues with fertility and laying in their Ancona flock, so my order was continually pushed...
