HELP! New chickens dying off one by one

wmroth and 1muttsfan - I have had these chickens about 4 months, since they were 6 weeks old. I had them in a fenced-off area until about one month ago, so I feel they were isolated for a siufficient amount of time before integrating into the overall flock. Not sure how they could have caught...

HELP! New chickens dying off one by one

I heard from a friend that a possible treatment is puttingg "tryamieasine" in the chicken's water for a week. I've Googled "tryamieasine" with no results, so I'm thinking he may have misspelled it. Anyone know what he is referring to? He says in comes in little packets, so it must be a...

HELP! New chickens dying off one by one

Updated info: One chicken was extending it's neck out, trying to breathe. I looked up the symptoms of ILT, and that seems to fit. I can separate the newer chickens, but I'm coming up empty on a treatment. Good info on vaccines before the fact, but now that they have this, not much info on a...

HELP! New chickens dying off one by one

Stools seem OK, but separating them back out until I can figure this out seems like the best first step. That would help me to keep track of their brreathing, eating habits, stool, etc. I will check out infectious laryngotracheitis and bronchitis more online. Thanks!

HELP! New chickens dying off one by one

I have a number of new chickens that are about 5 months old. They are now mixed with my older chickens and seem to be getting along well, except they choose to stay out in the run at night on a perch, instead of perch on the roost inside the coop with the older chickens. I'm expecting that to...

HELP - Chickens scattering feed out of hanging feeder

Den - Thanks for the pic. Looks simple to make. You're right, though, I can barely see the wire - Is it a section of chicken wire cut to be the length of the trough and width of the side boards? I'll bet that works well. Thanks!.

    Chicks filling waterer with shavings

I suspected going hiigher might do the trick. I'll try that - Thanks!

    Chicks filling waterer with shavings

Should have mentioned they are in an area where they can see adult hens and their behaviors. Not sure that matters, though.

    Chicks filling waterer with shavings

I'm guessing this has been discussed already, but I haven't found it on a search yet. My BCM chicks are ~ 2 months old. I have a 1-gallon waterer in their area, with pine shavings on the floor of their area. They keep filling the water tray with pine shavings, making the water undrinkable...

HELP - Chickens scattering feed out of hanging feeder

azygous - That's a slick solution. My pan is already 17", but I guess the point is that the additional "catcher" pan is bigger than the area they can eat from, so less gets wasted. I'll have to think about how I can do that with a solution similar to yours. Den in Penn - When you say you're...

HELP - Chickens scattering feed out of hanging feeder

I really do think it's a "learned" behavior and the entire group starts doing it (as far as I can tell). I agree with letting them range to fill up with other foods (bugs, etc.), but I think the behavior still has to be addressed. I may try drilling another hole to keep the feed from filling...

Help - Chickens scattering feed from hanging feeder

RaeRae - I have adjusted the height from as high as they could possibly reach to just barely off the ground - With the same result. I should have said that in my initial post. Not sure what the heck causes this behavior. My chickens are allowed out to range almost daily, but this has never...

HELP - Chickens scattering feed out of hanging feeder

I'm not sure if this is a "learned" group behavior or not. Within the last month, the chickens have started to dig out and scatter around the feed from my hanging feeder - It's a Littel Giant 40-lb, 17" pan feeder. The feeder has 3 holes for changing the feed flow gap on the tray bottom, and I...
