I have had up to 4 in the same nest. Two girls were sisters that raised chicks every summer together. My favorite all time broodies. The last girl died this winter. I am trying to get replacements from the same lady though (Dipsey Doodle)
Welcome to all the "new" Iowa people! I'm not on here that much but feel free to message me. I live in Des Moines and right now have 42 eggs incubating. Jersey Giants and green egg layers plus two duck eggs =)
I will be throwing some Jersey Giants in the incubator soon. The resulting chicks will be blue (black hens, splash rooster) My rooster is a good sized bird and VERY good to his girls. He has a good temperament with humans too.
I have put this weeks and next weeks in (on a two week pay schedule) S0 far so good. Thinking about doing this X3 and then giving the money to my kids for Christmas.
I also hear there are videos on youtube that show you how to vent sex ducks and geese. Not sure how hard it is to sex an adult though - might stick with the voice and tail feather...
was she stuck to her own pooh? One of my ducks did that the other day. If she didn't pull skin off she will probably be fine. My girl only pulled some tail feathers off.
Ducks are pretty tough creatures.
I have both chickens and muscovies. The ducks OBLITERATED my yard of anything green this summer, including creeping charlie - they do eat grass and weeds and the leaves off my Japanese maples when they can reach them. They will eat your garden too.
