    LOst my charcoal today

Possums sometimes eat just the head, so do great horned owls. Mink also eat just the head. Sorry to hear about your loss. A trail cam might help you find what is doing this. We also use motion detector lighting. Varmits do not like the lights. Good luck in catching this nasty varmit.

I am sure it has been talked about a lot, Worming Questions

What I was curious about the discrepancies in the reasonings not to catch for oral administration but to catch for applications. I never SHOVE anything down their throats. Sure way to have trouble. I think that is exaggerated. We do not have much of a issue in giving oral meds. We always...

I am sure it has been talked about a lot, Worming Questions

What is the difference in "catching" issue in Peafowl whether its to worm with ivomec or safeguard since you stated in a earlier post you catch them 3 days in your safeguard/ivomec cocktail? Sure I know what you may say that one goes as a application on skin versus oral administration. We have...

    Pics (heavy) of pea parents

Connerhills, I was approached this past spring about being on the BOD by Jeanna Motz of Bigcreekpoultry but was then told you had to be a member in good standing for at least a year before you could hold any office,so becoming an officer or being on the BOD is out.I also do not see any...

    Need help.. Sick & lethargic

Blackhead is caused by a protozoa. Which are often hard to kill and can be hard to identify while the host is alive. What I refer to advanced stage as to when the liver becomes affected. By that time the submucosa and muscularis of the ceca are ulcerated often with lesions. The wall can...

    Need help.. Sick & lethargic

If they are young or died from a secondary infection to blackhead the odor had not become to the final stage which is where the foul odor comes in. As some Peafowl are lost due to secondary infections.

    Need help.. Sick & lethargic

It does have a over powering sulphur odor. If in a closed area with it you will want to run. That is in the last stage of the disease.

    Need help.. Sick & lethargic

I do not believe all the info on this site is "golden". Sad to say some of the advice I see here regarding health and medications is not valid. Baytril is not a last resort antibiotic, it is one of the best for fowl. Don't take my word for it this comes from my vet who has been a vet with the...

Feather Challenged- Not Postcard quality pea pics.

Doesn't appear the move phased the BSSP peas for too long. We are still getting eggs here too. A BSSP hen in the overflow pen is trying to set up another nest. She is one sweet little peahen who really likes to sit.

    Gravel in peafowl enclosure???

We have sand too. Easy to clean, keeps dust down to help prevent sinusitis, worms and parasites do not thrive in sand, drains well and no mud, easy on peafowl feet. And the peas love the sand.

    Help with color

Do you have any opal or splits to opal? Could also be a purple white eye as they are lighter and frosty. Sometimes colors that are recessive (split) can be expressed without any visual in the parent birds. You may be dealing with a split. Supposedly Taupe came from IB/Purple mating.

Do I have an Opal Silver Pied?? (Pics)

Yes Casper is very pretty. Donn would know I'm sure, he's a nice guy. Did you see his Taupe peafowl?

Do I have an Opal Silver Pied?? (Pics)

We have hatched many silver pied and the color you are refering to I have seen in silver pied chicks. It will more than likely change. And become green or blue markings where you are seeing the immature plumage. And if it does not change to green/blue you might have something else.

    Need help in Tennessee -please

Eprinex is eprinomectin. Similar to ivermectin. Same class of wormer. It does great for buffalo gnats and that is the main reason why we tried it in the beginning. The gnats were so thick and just stripping all the feathers of the peas head and neck. I use .25 mL under each wing for a total of...

    Need help in Tennessee -please

Ivermectin is very good for external parasites on peafowl. And the best for gape worm if given orally. Other than that it isn't near as effective as other wormers. It is the harshest and not recommended for peafowl under 6 months, because it is harsh. It does not guard against the two most...

What Color Is This Chick? Genetic Questions Please help?

Looks like a BS purple. Could also be white eye. Just because a bird has white flights does not mean they are always split to white. We have peafowl with white flights that are not split to white. It's possible she could be peach, but she does not look like any peach I have, or hatched...

Last year we started with a few Muscovy eggs. To date we have 45. The hens are some determined setters. One hen raised her 12 ducklings to about 6 weeks of age and started all over again....:D
