I've always wanted to do this, and now (at 33 years old!) I finally have chickens!
I have black Javas, and my roo is soooo handsome. My hen is cute too, but her back is all picked because she's the only hen I have and she gets a lot of "action" (although I've been letting her out during...
Well, I don't consider him mean. He's significantly nicer/calmer than the other 2 roos we had, and my sister in law just got rid of her mean rooster of the same breed. I'll have to look into the training methods :)
Not sure if this is the right forum or not (I figured Chicken Behavior....) but here goes.
I have 2 Javas (a roo and a hen). Actually, we also have 8 chicks from them that I incubated (for the first time... go me!!) but they are still not in w/ the big guys. We have a coop for the 2 adults...
I have 1 rooster and 2 hens (Javas), and I plan on hatching some chicks soon. The 3 that I have currently came from the museum. Once I hatch some chicks, I plan on keeping the pullets and selling off/butchering the boys.... but then what about next time I want to hatch some chicks? Is it okay...
My friend has 2 beautiful auburn roos, and some black Java girlies (a bear got all of her auburn girls! :(). She needs to get rid of 2 of her boys (she also has a black Java roo, so 3 roos total), and she just so scared to get rid of an auburn and then have something happen to the one she...

What should I do? I was originally going to butcher them, but they're such a rare breed I feel guilty. They were May babies (so they aren't chicks or anything), and I have 3 males and 2 females. I want to keep one male.
WWYD? Could I sell them? Are they worth anything?

It seems like all the boys are picking on the white one (he's a boy too). Is that racist? lol
I let them free range a little today, and nobody was fighting, so hopefully it was just pecking order stuff.
Our coop is still in the works, so they are all spending the nights in a dog...
Hi all! I just got my chickens 2 weeks ago (about 2 1/2 month old Javas.... 5 males, 3 females) and they are fun!
I'm planning on whittling it down to just one male and the 3 females, then maybe trying for some more chicks in the spring? I don't know, we'll see how everything works out. 7...
