Red Laced Cornish X and project talk (pics p. 8)

I keep nearly 7 or 8 barrels of seperate grain and feed and supplements, each pen may or may not get a (by pen custom formula), each pen has birds of different ages, different breeding, and different outcomes. Each pen is evalutaed and fed what I think is required based on what their use is...

28% to very young chicks, 20% to breeders, and 30% to show birds during show conditioning. I do custom mix per pen and per certain groups of birds but the chicks stay on med starter for 6 mo.

I have also found that too much protein can also have adverse effects, I stumbled on this last year when I was hatching 200 a week, it was fine as chicks but in the young teen stage some had developed some uncorrectable issues. I dropped the protein back and the problems disappeared, but I still...

Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Pull up a rockin' chair and lay some wisdom on us!

I get my duck & geese meat from the birds I hunt and kill, I am a big waterfowl hunter. I do only use the puddle duck group for jerky as the divers are just way to rank to jerk out. It's a cool thing me and the guy's have when we are in the blinds cold and freezing shivering our tails off we...

Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Pull up a rockin' chair and lay some wisdom on us!

Well MC as I said sometime ago I custom mix my feed, i use several different things but it's mainly just a few different types of commercial feeds dpending on what I am doing and then several different grain seeds. Another one of the more common reasons for the birds feather picking each other is their internal body mechanism's need for a certain nutrient such as animal protien derived from the most available source................. chicken feathers. It's kind of like when your house dog eat's fresh green...

LOL chickens cooking for themselfs.................. good one. IMO the jury is out for me on GMO's, too much misinformation at this point. Supplementing their feed with table scraps is helpful in the way of limiting commercial feeds to an extent. I could get cancer from a zillion things we buy...

Well with all the feed mills switching almost entirely to plant based protiens the birds are suffering, the veggie heads tend to think of their chicken bodies as their own human bodies and feed them as they do themselfs. This is a very bad thing because chickens are different but the huggers...

When we finish dinner and go to scrape plates we do it in a special big pot, and then the next day or so when I go to chore the birds I take it out there and scoop some into each pen's feeder, swishing it around with the feed so they don't just eat the good stuff but the feed as well.
