I recently purchased 10 auracauna chicks. I really was just looking for colored eggs, but found these chicks and decided it would be fun to try and raise them for my 9 year old to take to the fair next year. Who knew how hard it was to have a "true" show bird for this breed???? Anyway, they are...
I had one egg hatch on day 22. One more started, but died. I figured out now that my thermometer was off and the incubator was a couple degrees cooler than I thought all along. Is there any hope for the rest of the eggs or should I just give up on them now? It is day 23.
The one that hatched is...
I'm not sure what color. It is grey and white mixed now. The eggs came from a flock of mixed colors, so it will be a surprise I guess? I am not real familiar with silkies, so don't know the different colors they can be.
I posted a picture of the little one! It is so cute! I was disappointed to get home and find no more hatched and one had started and was dead. I don't know what went wrong. But it has been a long time since i"ve done this and it is a borrowed incubator. I am not giving up on the rest of the eggs...
Woke up this moring, checked the incubator and I have 1 silkie hatched! It is so cute! It is day 22 and I need to leave for work soon, but I am so excited!
I got home from work today and still nothing. I wonder if something went wrong? I had live chicks on day 18 when I candled them.
Thank goodness we had a few ordered form the feed store that came today, otherwise my son would be heartbroke if they don't hatch.

Ha!
I think I am glad I work tomorrow and won't be around to check the incubator window all the time!
I decided it was to nice to crochet, so went for a walk instead!
I have 15 silkie eggs in the incubator. When I took them out of the turner on day 18 and candled them all was well. Now I am a nervous wreck waiting for them to hatch! It has been probably 10 years since I have incubated eggs and I forgot how nerve racking it can be!
