    What is THIS chicken thinking?

She's finding a nice comfy spot to contemplate her strategies for world domination (as do all BR's.)

Am I being.... what's the word, hmmm - rude?

I am in a similar situation, but with some key differences. My brother is getting married 11/11, but it is the first marriage for both (he's 40 though). My brother doesn't get to see my son often, as he lives outside the U.S., but they are fairly close (it's his only nephew/niece, and he's my...

    Soy-Free, Non-GMO, Organic feed

Quote: Right...but you either won't have ENOUGH protein with grain only, or you won't have enough vitamins/minerals (hence the nutri-balancer). Like I said, you can generally order a custom-made feed from a mill, but the nutrition will be lacking. The caveat is if they free range a LOT in a...

    Soy-Free, Non-GMO, Organic feed

Quote: soy is added for protein. it can be found in many other ways - - grains as an example. they all have protein. again, there are many things to provide protein. soy is only one of them. Right...but you either won't have ENOUGH protein with grain only, or you won't have enough...

    Soy-Free, Non-GMO, Organic feed

Depends on where you are, but I'm guessing that unless you have a local mill where you can order it custom-made (for a pretty dear price) you probably won't find it. Soy is added for protein - so if soy is removed, you have to add something else (meat or fish proteins) to increase protein. This...

    How big/small is your town?

ray's two cents : Quote: Large cities will have several zip codes in different areas of the city... Rural areas often just have one or a few for a very large area, depending on the population size usually. Oh okay, well, I've never lived in a rural area so I wouldn't know what post codes are...

    How big/small is your town?

ray's two cents : Quote: I'm curious about how the American zip code thing works. Here we have a different postcode for each area of the city. Large cities will have several zip codes in different areas of the city... Rural areas often just have one or a few for a very large area, depending...

    How big/small is your town?

About 4000 for approx 35 sq mi... No stop lights, one P.O., one small groc store, one bank, 3 liquor stores (I guess we're a bunch of drunks), one elem school (middle and HS are in a town 12 mi away), a feed store and one gas station.

    How many roosters from hatcheries?

24 chicks from feed store (sexed from hatchery) this spring - 21 pullets, 3 roos.

what are wrong with my Hens??!!??

Likely need to increase light to 14 hrs per day. I have 19 pullets (24 wks tomorrow) and I had 15 eggs yesterday, 14 today. Sounds like something affecting the whole flock - so if they're healthy, they probably need more light.

I think chiropractor is taking sis for a ride

Ditto Gypsy and HH He may be a bad apple (there are plenty out there, just as there are bad MD's, dentists, car mechanics, etc etc ad nauseum)... But there is NO way to know that just by the number of visits. MOST chiro's will recommend frequent (3-4 x per week) for the first week or two...

Adding light (not heat). What's the best way?

I'm using a nightlight. I have it come on a couple hours early in the morning and then for about an hour in the evening. I have to split it up, as the recommended amount of light is 14 hours and I don't want the chickens up at 4 am. From what I read, you don't need a bright light - basically...
