I leave food and water inside the chicken house at night for young chicks. Especially since they aren’t really getting up on a roost yet but sleep bunched together on the floor. Once they start sleeping on a roosting bar, food will be put away at night.
Mine do the same thing. Fly out the door each morning. They have the option of two ladders to get down and choose not to.
Some are already awake and on the floor of the coop eating, however most are still on the roosts and just fly out when I open the door.

Yep. They are messy little boogers. They play in the water and get everything soaking wet, which contributes to the smell. I know our chicken coop and yard would be much more neat and clean without the ducks, but they're sorta worth it, lol.
