That is is yes and no answer. I was able to fix angel wing for one of my first ducklings by wrapping the wing in athletic tape. This means you have to catch it as it occurs with ducklings. The duckling will pull it off so you will have to re-wrap it often. Just make sure you don't wrap to...
looking at the second pic...it looks like a star type crack in the top right of the egg. Might have been pecked or stepped on. Once there is small crack the egg will have bacteria growth pretty quickly. You can try candling again to see if there is any air sack at the rounded end. If you don't...
I have seen duck eggs look like this when they go rotten. Might be a quitter. If it smells like funk toss it before it explodes under your broody and makes a mess of things with the others you have under her.
I used bungees with water bottles as weights on each tie down end to hold the wings and legs, but they were still squirmy. I also made sure they were empty by holding food for 36 hours and water for 12. It was just not real obvious if I was getting the testes on top or if I was getting the...
I had my first go at caponizing 3 seven week old males this morning. Hubby 'helped' a little with holding them still and shining a light. No deaths at least but I didn't get full capons either.
The first one I went in from both sides...Couldn't find anything very well on the left side so I...
Do they have an extra toe? If any do have the extra toe it might be a faverolle mix most likely. My avatar is a male Faverolle.
Your first pic looks like it's a female, but Faverolle females are NOT black but they do have muff/beards. So with the beard/muff that is one indicator of a possible...
I think if there was major damage she would have gone downhill pretty fast. The stress of the event probably made her skip laying. If she is swimming and eating normally I think she will be OK, but there is always a chance that she is hiding the injury well. I would watch her for a few more days...
I have been reading though this thread with great interest and am wanting to give this a go with my current hatchery shipment. I received toooo many males (I'm guessing they sent them as extras for warmth) and I need to do something with them as I already have too many males. I am hoping to see...
Did you think of looking for a local waterfowl rescue near you to see if they could take them in? We have one in NC where I'm from and they take in all the Easter rejects. If you could do some checking around you might find one near you.
Contact Carolina Waterfowl Rescue @ [email protected]. They may be able to help you locate a new family to take them or they may have someone come by and pick them up and transfer them down to the rescue. I adopted my ducks from them a couple years ago and they are a good group of people. They...
Here is an updated picture of the molt process of my EE chicken that I posted early on (post # 45).
As you can see she still looks pretty bad but getting better. Lots of pin feathers and the start of some tail feathers.
I thought I had a hen that has a bad molt. Zazouse's chicken takes the cake!
I finally got my girl into the garage and she is already has new feathers poking through.
I have put a chicken saddle/apron on her and she always rips it off. I am going to separate her from the flock and put her in my garage soon. I just have to get a rooster out of there first - dang things keep fighting. She gets more attention from my hens who like to pick on her new feathers -...
Here is my poor EE girl. She keeps giving me eggs instead of getting some new feathers. I think I may have to bring her into my garage to keep her warm this winter. Hopefully, she will get some feathers soon.

I'm going to say maybe an EE. My Faverolle female is much more reddish along her back feathers and she has a full beard.
I think once she starts laying eggs again you'll probably know what she is if she lays a blue/green egg.
I think I have seen something similar to this on another forum...hope this is OK to post a link to the discussion about it. Looks like maybe fowl pox...
