    Anyone in the Louisville-ish area have any young chicks for sale? I had a single chick hatch under a broody and then reject it. I'm looking for a buddy for her... she hatched on Saturday and is super lonely. She's a duccle x serama mix, so a bantam chick would be preferred. ^_^;

Sick Hen; diarrhea, lethargy, purple comb

I have a one year old easter egger hen (2nd gen; parents were hatchery birds...) with diarrhea w/ worms (appeared to be roundworm. I wish I had a microscope.). She also has a dark purple comb. She started displaying these symptoms this morning, as far as I am aware. I had let my chickens out...

Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

I use the little plastic cups similar to what restaurants use when they serve dressing on the side along with sponges in small dishes to raise the humidity in my LG.

Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

Seramas and one mixed breed chick. The mixed breed could be any mix of seramas, cochins, Japanese, and naked necks.

Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

Such an awesome feeling! It's so exciting. @_@ the weekend can't get here soon enough!! My four all appear to be doing fantastic...lively little things. I see them constantly moving inside the shell.

Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

I am so sorry to hear this. :( could anything have startled your dogs? Maybe they were spooked or something... I am sure that your incubator will be okay... I would use bleach to clean it and then a wipe down with vinegar afterward to help with the smell. Maybe keep the incubator in a room that...

Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

Adorable! Additionally, do frizzled birds need extra care verses a smooth feathered bird? I only ask because there's the possibility of my serama's being frizzled. I spoke with the breeder the other day and because my Japanese eggs were duds, she is going to replace them toward the end of...

Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

I used to use a camera with a slow shutter speed. Seemed to help with the blurry-ness. But I just took the above pictures with my phone.

Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

Infertile Japanese egg. I know there is a lethal gene in japanese bantams, but I thought any affected chicks died before hatching? They would have to be developed some I would assume... One of my seramas! I played around in the photobucket editor to make the veins and the embryo pop out a...

Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

So how did everyone's candling go? I took pictures, but I need to wait until my phone's battery charges before I can put them on the computer. >_< As I suspected, the Japanese bantams are infertile. They are showing no signs of life. :( The other four are doing marvelous though. I took a video...

Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

Gah. Out of the eight eggs I have, only four are developing. (I have a candling addiction. LOL I was looking at one of my seramas today and it was moving around like crazy! I've never seen them so active early on!) It appears that none of the Japanese bantam eggs I got were fertile. :/ None of...

Little Giant - first time incubating, need advice!

I have the same incubator. I run mine at 100 degrees F, and have had very good hatch rates. 102 sounds a bit high to me- but I have never ran any of my incubators higher than 101.

Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

The eggs will most likely be fine. :) Remember, broody hens do get up to eat and drink! I went ahead and candled a little yesterday. >_> Two out of my eight definitely have a little embryo developing (Both seramas!!)! Saw some really nice blood vessels. Hopefully, the others just weren't...

Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

You've got a lot more willpower than me. LOL. I'm a notorious candler. I'm tempted to grab my flashlight every time I open my incubator to turn. My past two hatches I have hand turned my eggs...which means opening the incubator at least three times a day. During those times I add water and...

Setting Eggs 1/19 - Hatching Buddies

I am also going to be setting eggs tomorrow! I am picking up four japanese bantam and two serama eggs. :) Honestly, I've had very good hatches keeping my humidity around 30% for days 1-18. I then try to bump it up to about 50-60% during those last couple of days.

lost half of my flock today

I am in the Louisville, KY area. While I don't have any New Hampshire reds, I can offer you some hatching eggs. They'll all be Easter Egger mixes, as my roo is a black/white easter egger. My currently laying hens a couple of different breeds, but if you like different egg colors...:D I have 1 EE...
