So can I literally keep her in a kennel for a month to quarantine her? Does she need exercise time?
We're truly talking about a backyard chicken setup here so there's not a lot of extra space to keep them separate. I'd have to keep her in quarantine in the garage for the month.
Sorry for the massive amount of questions. How secluded does she need to be? Is it a lack of physical contact entirely? Like could I put her in the dog kennel inside the chicken coop and just pull her out individually and let her run around a bit?
I may just tell my friend to hold onto her for...
Thanks for that additional info. I have a small dog kennel (wire) that's about 4-5 sqft that I could seclude her to but I don't really have another coop I could put her in. do you think that would be enough living space for a single chicken? She wouldn't have a whole lot of room for moving...
So at what age or level of maturity do you put them together? They seem to be pretty fully feathered that this point - and they outnumber her three to one. She's also fairly well socialized as she's coming from a coop with many (15+) chickens.
We have three chicks that are 4-5 weeks old at this point. They're living outside in the coop.
One of our friends has a chicken they'd like to give us as well but it's fully grown. Any concerns with putting a fully grown chicken in with chickens that are that young? I'm going to have to put...
Another question - for these breeds when can I know for sure? It seems for the Rock it should be obvious based upon coloring - what about the other two?
Thanks all! I hope I have 2 / 1. I'm getting another chicken (full grown) from a friend so if I end up having 3 girls and one roo that would be not a bad split!
Just curious how you came to those conclusions (for learning purposes)
i can tell you the NH seems to dislike the most being picked up. The Wyandotte is the most friendly followed by the Plymouth Rock.
Anyone able to help me sex these three little chicks? I know it's early, but I'd love to know how I did in the chicken lottery
Silver-laced Wyandotte
New Hampshire
Partridge Plymouth Rock
That's actually a really cool solution - and it's possible I can do that without the need to build onto the back at all. I'll have to take a look at it and see what I can come up with.
Thanks Mark!
Hi All
I just built an ark and I'm trying to build on some retractable wheels to make it easier to move. Picture:
I tried to use regular construction L-brackets but it's far too heavy and they bend sideways without much movement. Does anyone have a recommendation of what else I might use...
