Well, as requested, a little update
Unsurprisingly there were none that hatched and I took the eggs away last weekend - when I candled them all only one had a dark patch, the others looked empty, so I think I might have been sold some dud eggs
Anyway, 'mother' wasn't happy when she...
Hello
Looking for some advice
I had a muscovy duck set on some bantam eggs for over 21 days but none have hatched - it's now day 25 so definitely none hatching. I have been advised (?) that as ducks give their eggs a short cooling off period daily, and which apparently chickens do not, the...
Hey again all
Looking for some friendly advice
I have a muscovy sitting on 12 silkie eggs and they are due to hatch next weekend (around 12th July), I had already bought some duck and goose crumb I also had another muscovy sat on her own eggs, but they were all infertile
So I have 20kg of...
Interesting... might look into the buttermilk, thanks
Do you think an older bird needs to hang for any length of time? I was intending with the younger ones to process, put in cold water and then fridge for roasting a day later, or freezing? But with the older bird I wodnered whether it needed...
Thanks for this, I wasn't feeling squeamish with the bird moving, I jsut wanted to know it wasn't suffering, to be honest - this time it because she was clearly not in a good way and I was doing the 'right thing'
However, its good to know when I try to take on the cockerels, probably tomorrow...

We have 4 cockerels at 6 months old and are about to slaughter for meat, and I was thinking the broom stick method as its quick and the least messy method I've found
However, I found one of our...
They were from the local school who had a bunch of easter egg chicks to hatch for the kids last year but didnt know what to do after - there's three roos like him now and 7 girls that are a mix of browns, that look like hybrid crosses of RIR and orpington
Hi all,
We did have a fine flock of Muscovy ducks until last night - from one male and three females I had three clutches hatch this year providing 29 ducklings
A week ago I lost one of our drakes who was just about fully mature, but no feathers or sign of an attack; two days later three of...
I'd put ten eggs into an incubator I'd borrowed from a friend in late September last year - I now realise its not the best time to do this now, but we were experimenting...
Anyway, Jools (thats her name... obviously, sorry) hatched on 21st October, she pipped on day 36 in the incubator, and I...
Yeh that sounds like our girl, she's an only 'child' an dthen raised by me and now let loose, so she may be a bit bonkers... besides shes sat on eggs too and I dont think she will be sexually mature until a year old?!
