    Spots on Roo's combs...?

Well, I am afraid it is indeed fowl pox, it has spread to their cheeks and I see it is white when it starts... I was hoping it was frost bite or something... They sure seem healthy otherwise, do I cull them out of the flock right now? On an up note, WE HARVESTED OUR FIRST EGG TODAY!!!!! ;-)

    Spots on Roo's combs...?

I think they are just scabs, they are only on the two roo's, on the combs only, dry, and affect no other birds... (Fingers crossed)

    Spots on Roo's combs...?

My flock is apx 5 months old now, and the roosters are quite large now, and looking very healthy as is the flock as a whole, however I am noticing some black spots, almost like maybe peck bites, or something, they are blackish, I want to know if this is typical, or is it something I should be...

Free range flock egg laying question?

Our girls are 5 months old now, free ranging around our property and are doing great. But we have a quick question, as far as egg laying goes is it typical that the girls will return to the coop and their nest box to lay or will we have eggs all over the property?

    Ammonia smell in coop?

Hmmm, coop is plenty big, ventilation could be improved however I suppose, as we do live in a cold area and I have the coop pretty tight right now to help keep them warm. My concern was that this was not happening, at all, and all of a sudden, there it was. I thought maybe the shavings we...

Nervous about letting my chickens free range

We free range on our 10 acres, but the gang never ranged more than 50 yards from their house, they are soooo happy and I just couldn't imagine keeping them in a run, tho I understand the needs of different folks and circumstances. The girls explore, poke around, find and discover all the ever...

    Ammonia smell in coop?

We have had our flock since Nov 9th of 2011, so they are just over 3 months old. We change their pine shavings regularly, as needed, and everything has gone very well. In fact the coop has really been a pretty sanity place, for a coop, and any smells aside from a slight chicken odor have...

My 2 month old girls are pooping in their nesting boxes - Yuck!

The boxes are standard construction, they do have a 3" board on the front to hold the bedding inside, and I suspect though I haven't actually seen it, that they are roosting on that board? They are only 9 weeks old, does that have anything to do with it? Thanks! New site looks cool too... ;-)

Raccoon problem... HOW DO I GET RID OF THIS HORRIBLE CREATURE.

We have great success using a dogproof trap with a can of tuna as the lure. Of course a little quiet time on the porch with a cold beer and a .22 on your lap will do the trick too... ;-)

    Freeranging Q's

I have 21 girls and a couple roo's out in their coop, they are almost 2 months old now, fully feathered and looking great! I have not built a run for them as we want to free range them, so I have let them out increasing a couple hours each day before dusk each day for the last few days and all...

    Coop, Run, and Free Range

Great info, just what I was needing to hear, thx. So do they range in winter, on snow? I could see they could range around the edges, under trees, sides of buildings, under stuff... If I open the small chicken hatch on the side of the coop on days that it is in the 30's or 20's, is that okay...

    Coop, Run, and Free Range

Hi Guys, So we have the 6 week old girls in their new digs (coop) and they seem content enough. We live in northern Idaho, and the temps are routinely in the teens at night and in the 20's during the day. The coop stays warm enough and I have them on a brooder light at night for now till they...
