"Privett Hatchery" is where the feed store we go to out here in the sticks of eastern Oregon gets their chicks from. I usually just hatch my own, but wanted some new blood so decided to bring these guys home.
Time will tell I guess? But it sounds like you have all of those answers already. I probably should have just PM'd you to help me with this in the first place. Glad this site has such an amazing authority on everything.. this site used to be full of nice people who loved sharing their backyard...
Well it wasn't me! She has 11 remaining eggs so time will tell.. my chickens don't forage in this location. But a chicken egg is likely? However there are no more under her so we will see. I will update in a few days. But I appreciate the accusation!
Found my turkey nest today. We only have a hen but there are wild turkeys that run through our property from time to time. I decided to get a closer look because I saw a baby under her. We also have a turken rooster. And to my surprise this is what I saw...
After I got home from work today I noticed an extra turkey eating and moving with my flock of free range turkeys. We have wild turkeys about 5-6 miles down the road we see almost every day but we don't see many up at our elevation. She even flew up and roosted with them once it got dark. My only...
I would move them out once they have dried off. I had one not absorb all of its yolk as well this hatch, I left him in for a bit longer than normal and hoped he would absorb it or it would dry up. It dried up and I had to use some scissors to remove the dried portion. It is currently in with its...
It looks as though your eggs were incubated on their sides. During the incubation the embryo will move to the most optimal location to hatch. For them that could be the pointy end of the egg. If the egg is pipped then it can get air and will hatch just fine usually. A slight angle with the big...
On the darker eggs I go by the air cell. A good light will give you that. For future hatches take a picture of the candling on the first day setting and reference it each time you candle after that. There are also people who weigh their eggs and record the loss to make sure it is consistent with...
I would give them time. And leave them be. After years of "helping" I decided to just let nature take its course and found that most if still alive will hatch. Sometimes I have a 3-4 day difference from first hatch, (out of shell not pip), to last hatch. All of the excitement made me open the...
How is everyone doing so far?
Out of the original 24 I had 2 stop development. So I am now down to 22 and just 2 days until I remove the turner and increase humidity. I will candle one last time the same day to make sure all are still looking good. I hope all is well with everyone else.
I set some eggs on the 4th in the evening so I am just a few days ahead of you. If you need a hatch buddy I am here. I am using my brinsea eco 20. 52% humidity and 99.4°f. So far all 24 eggs are fertile, however I have only hit 100% hatch once. However I will normally hatch over 95%.. good luck!
He was a "reject" as a 3 month old along with my black male. They were not supposed to be very vigorous or do well. So I brought them both home and started to feed them and gave them plenty of space to roam. After a month I aquired 3 hens that were just pets from a local couple. And the flock...
Has anyone ever seen this by the way? My Blue Tom likes to go broody as well. He hatched out 6 eggs this year and acted like a hen the whole time during the rearing. Once the chicks got older they all just merged into one flock of youngsters.
"Brindle" in the center. There are 2 of them.
"cream" covering up her brood
"cream" with her babies
the rest of the gang..
Any info from more experienced breeders is very welcome!
