I see that other people put reviews of this product as "it stinks".
But what else would you use besides a robber bowl in a cold climate where you have to dislodge the ice every day?
Other people do say that the stink dissipates.
I wonder if something changed?
I was in a rush and bought what I thought was a usual, black rubber water bucket.
I realized it had a warning like "California says this might cause cancer or reproductive harm"
It has a chemical stink.
What the heck? Are these different than the water buckets I've been buying for 20 years?
Well, this week the two injured chicks went back to the coop after their "garage hospital stay". Their injuries were on the bad side, and they spent 3 weeks healing. The first day or so was scary but then they bounced back. I used a little bit of anti-bacterial ointment on the wounds...
This coop was our attempt at a Fort Knox, but it didn't last long. I think our major issue was not putting wire under the enclosed run. (so tunneling in). It is also amazing how birds and rodents have still found their way in at eaves, under doors, at the point of the roof. Anywhere there...
Hello, just wanted to update this thread and say that what I did was pull the younger chickens out from the coop and back into the brooder. They are 2.5 months and really need to be out. But here we are.
The two with the pecked heads are still separate from the others, and recovering.
I...
Hello! I need some chicken detectives
Not last night, but the night before we put our nine-week old chicks into the coop with our other hens. (We live near a swamp and Canadian Geese come up on the lawn)
Our chickens live in a coop with an enclosed run. We have rat issues, so there are...
I've been looking for this type of information for a while, because my mother-in-law has told me that she would watch her older polish relatives *make chicken feathers into peshinas". I never have found anyone else who knew what a "peshina" was, I suppose it is a anglicized version of the...
a quote: "The feathers from ducks and geese and the better feathers from chickens are stored in white bags in the attic. We've brought them down to the room designated for stripping and so as not to mix the different types of feathers, the contents of each bag is placed on separate tables...
I thought everyone here would delight in this amazing page that describes how sorting and processing feathers was a social event in old Poland.
Also, it discusses a bit out HOW to process feathers for use (you strip them, sort them) and what they were made into. (the best feathers into...
Initially when I went to identify my roo,, I looked at the McMurray site, I saw the Spanish, (and I didn't see Orloff there, so it wasn't on the radar for me). But the face of the Spanish was so dissimilar.
So I went looking for pics across the web, and the one I posted (on the right in my...
Wow! Thanks so much for the ideas Jacin and floppy! Those are awesome guesses. I made a little screen shot of my new roo with orloff, spanish, and another breed that I think looks a bit like him in the face. (my new roo is at center)
I'm pretty sure that this was one of those "rare mcmurray extras"
He has been chased by another rooster so he might be a bit skinnier than he should be
Things I want to point out: white earlobe, yellow legs, tall stance, pea? comb, fluffy neck
I do have a guess, but I will keep it to myself not...
So, before fish meal, before "BIG CORN" and "BIG SOY"...
WHAT DID THEY FEED CHICKENS?
I'm sure it was simpler. Like a mix of oats and legumes sprinkled on the ground
Kitchen scraps and leftovers and egg shells
Gravel and Worms and grass that they found themselves.
Well, for one thing the health of the humans is the reason we raise birds lol. An egg white doesn't act the same in recipes as a whole egg, and doesn't have the same nutritional value.
For another, it appears that the Japanese egg producers are having no trouble with changing from corn to rice...
Aart, Although you can find out what the vit levels are in your blood, it might not really tell you how much is stored away in your organs, such as your skin. Perhaps I'm "lucky" that the effect is right there (coloring my skin)!
Do you know if your friends made their own feed, or buy...
Willowspirit, it appears that it doesn't matter the breed, it's mostly the feeding of rice vs corn that does it. I'd be experimenting with my current flock which is mixed, and older for that matter.
Centrarchid, I would bet that a white bird like my leghorns might need less carotenes, although...
