Swedish flower hen Roo needs to go in North Central Connecticut

They changed the laws since we started having chickens, and have been staying under the radar. Unfortunately we have a new neighbor who has decided that the roo's existence is ruining his life. He's got enough clout to make our lives miserable, so we would like to place him. He was hatched here...

    Chicken Buyers Remorse

Wayandottes. EE, and RIR all of them the ones I had were not nice. I had Speckled Sussex to start, had one that was broody, but we had no roo, so I bought some fertile eggs for her to rear. SS did a great job, the chicks were handled a lot. Nasty mean birds. Got a SS roo. He was sweet. Nice boy...

Could your pop door be at window height? AKA could I use an existing window as a door with a ramp?

Well the plan would essentially be to convert it to a permanent window post chickens if it ever becomes a 'post chicken' entity. LOL But that is why the 'yet to be determined location/height' hole in the wall is intended to be at window height. I don't have bees, rabbits or goats anymore. I'm...

Could your pop door be at window height? AKA could I use an existing window as a door with a ramp?

Hit reply too soon. Hope I didn't sound snarky. That is good food for thought, I will have to see how they do. I'll be sure to make sure they have enough room to get up and down in there My basic plan was a u shape, one side for a ramp (if needed) the back and other side for roost and board...

Could your pop door be at window height? AKA could I use an existing window as a door with a ramp?

In theory, I am putting in a roost bar, poop board and the nestboxes underneath. The coop they are currently in is 8x4 and it seems to be working, so hopefully this will work out too. I needed something less long and narrow, because cleaning it is so unwieldy, that it doesn't get done as...

Could your pop door be at window height? AKA could I use an existing window as a door with a ramp?

The theory is that at some point we will build another 'real' coop lol, and the DH doesn't want 'some weird hole at the bottom of the shed' if we don't need it. lol . I need to put a couple more windows in it regardless, So I have some flexibility in where it goes and it's size. This is one of...

    Poop board construction

I know this thread is almost 3 years old and the poster is finished with coop by now :), but I wanted to ask/suggest that if you can access the eggs from the outside, could you not put the board over the nest boxes, and the roost over that? I'd make them both removeable, in case you need to...

Could your pop door be at window height? AKA could I use an existing window as a door with a ramp?

OH! If I make a porch, I'll have somewhere to hang their feeder, Since I don't like to keep it in the coop, to minimize the desire of bears and rodents to go into the coop.

Could your pop door be at window height? AKA could I use an existing window as a door with a ramp?

I guess if I make it really long, they can walk to wherever they are happy with and hop on/off from there. The run is 10x20.

Could your pop door be at window height? AKA could I use an existing window as a door with a ramp?

They are Swedish flower hens. To this point they have been able to fly/hop up and down into their current coop, but the door is way larger than the new access would be. We've never had foot/leg problems, but I hope to keep that streak going.

Could your pop door be at window height? AKA could I use an existing window as a door with a ramp?

That's an excellent point. They've not to this point needed a ramp, but the door was big, it was human accessable, so plenty of room. In a perfect world, I won't need to build a pop door lower, but if we must, of course we will

Could your pop door be at window height? AKA could I use an existing window as a door with a ramp?

I have a shed I want to convert to a coop for now. But I'd like to use a window as a pop door rather than cutting one at floor height. Our current coop is 3-4 off the ground and our shed is obv. at floor level. Is there any reason I couldn't just use the window, and put a ramp down to the run...
