Anyone bought chicks from My Pet Chicken?

Ideal Poultry in Texas has those breeds, as does Privett hatchery in New Mexico. (I've heard that Privett can be hard to get ahold of, but a nearby feed store buys exclusively from them and their chicks always look robust and healthy) eta: Oops. I got distracted and replied to the original...

Anyone bought chicks from My Pet Chicken?

I noticed a blue egg layer that is uniquely theirs: "Super Blue Egg Layer." There may be others. Perhaps an email to them would be the easiest way to find out, since that information is in the descriptions (unless I've missed an easier way to find it).

Anyone bought chicks from My Pet Chicken?

Martha Stewart buys her chickens from My Pet Chicken (read it on her blog the other day - a google hit for some breed that I was researching). I could have sworn that I also saw mention of birds being from a specific hatchery, as Pyxis has said, but couldn't find it when I looked just now...

    Niederrheiner Thread! All Colors!

Greenfire's description currently (Feb 2017) states, "These are large fowl with the roosters sometimes topping 10 lb." So it sounds like they have reduced their original claim by quite a bit. What is the consensus so far on target weight for the standard?

    Good Russian Orloff stock

Have you looked at Erhard Weihs' birds? Kummer Poultry Farm: http://kummerpoultry.com/ I've been to his farm and was favorably impressed with his Russian Orloffs, although I was there to look at other breeds.

Aren't Welsummers and Speckled Sussex on your list? But there are other folks around too. Local feed stores are usually a good resource for names of people breeding/hatching.

What varieties are you attracted to? There is Erhard Weihs (Kummer Poultry) in the Enumclaw/Black Diamond area. His website shows the main breeds he has, but a phone call would be more accurate.

    King County, Washington!

Pardon my ignorance.. I've only bought cats and dogs directly from a breeder, so when you mention farm tours & security risks it makes me wonder... assuming that you do not know of the breeder's reputation, how do you determine that their birds are worth purchasing without visiting their farm...

    King County, Washington!

Hi all! I'm in South King County. Had never heard of The Grange or Baxter Barn, so thank you for that info. Anyone know of actual breeders in Western Washington? I know of Erhard Weihs (Kummer Poultry Farm), near Black Diamond. We visited his place a few years ago to look at his...

Quote: I've wondered if our little mystery hen could have been a bantam Speckled Sussex. I saw some today and they looked very much like I remember of her. She did have some sparse feathering on her legs though. Your flock sounds nice! Thanks for the welcome!

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Hi! @Shireshome: Wow, a fridgubator -- what a great name! I love repurposing stuff. Your story made me smile, I can just picture the @pinkchick: I'm on the Enumclaw Plateau, about 3 hours North of Portland. What kind of incubator do you have that holds 284? Not like I really need that...
