HOA vs Deed Restrictions vs City Law

We are having the same issue. We are buying a house without an HOA but we just got the deed restrictions from 1974 and they say no chickens. A lot has changed since then. I'm not sure what to do to change this!

    Texas

Hi, Here in Beaumont, Texas. We have all kinds of chickens, but I am looking for some Araucana eggs to hatch. We also have quarter horses, two mini horses, barn cats, 4 dogs, a parakeet, two kids, me and my husband. We are both school teachers and are enjoying summer!

    Escaped Gouldian Finch!

How sad for you. You will still enjoy your little female Gouldian. Perhaps you could get it a friend of another type of finch? Best of luck to you.

What bird is right for me?

I have had finches, parakeets, Cockatiels, lovebirds and a parrotlet. The finches were a blast, but they don't like to be handled. Parakeets are sweet birds. Our cockatiels were wonderful and sweet. I was not fond of the lovebirds. We loved our cranky little parrotlet. I agree with...

What PREDATOR is taking my chickens?!?!?!

As everything likes chicken, it could be almost anything. Raccoons, possums, HAWKS, other people's dogs, your dogs. If it is in the open pen, I would say hawks or dogs. At night, I would say raccoon, or fox. I don't know how far away you live from other people, but we live out in the country...

Adopt a hen program & get eggs in return

What an interesting idea. I would even do it but let them space the 12 dozen eggs out over a longer period of time. Maybe over 6 months. We sell our eggs for $3.50 a dozen at the farmer's market. So that would be about right. Or they could have price point choices. 6 dozen, 12 dozen, 24...

    Hello from Beaumont, Texas

I am not really a new member. I used to be a very active member when I first got chickens. Then I got busy with school and a few years went by and I forgot my sign in info! LOL So I started a new account. I have a lot of chickens that came from eggs that I bought from fabulous people on...

Sponsored Post Congratulations MamaNini! You won a beautiful coop from Handcrafted Coops!

My best advice is to have a great coop. This is important for several reasons. One, the coop will keep your chickens safe. Without a good coop, your chickens are likely to face predators and we all know that chickens are fairly defenseless in the face of danger. Two) A coop is where your...
