    Can this coop be saved? Questions re:nesting boxes

    I've got a set that I made that is 3 boxes wide by 5 rows high. The top boxes are about six feet off the ground with only a 1" x 2" across the front, about 5" out, for a perch. I get more eggs from the upper boxes than the lower. Even my little banty uses the upper boxes.

    Being one of the rookies here, I didn't know about corn creating body heat. I've had my chickens about 2 years now and have fed them half scratch grains and half Layer Crumbles (both Country Lane from Orscheln's) as their daily feed. I haven't noticed any problems.     Can I use fresh walnut tree shavings for litter?

    My sawmill next door is cutting only walnut trees right now. They said not to use it around flowers but he didn't know about chickens. Anyone with experience or ideas?

    Can I use fresh sawdust for litter in my chicken house?

    We have a sawmill down the road where I can get LOTS of sawdust. I seem to remember something about fresh oak sawdust not being good for litter. Any ideas?
