After doing extensive I went with sand in the bottom of the coop and poop boards under their roosts when we built our coop a little over one year ago. I put Sweet PDZ on the poop boards and clean the boards once or twice a week, the coop floor twice a year and haven't had any issues with...
I figured as much... never seen a coop that clean with chickens living in it! Lol. I had the same thought about the roosts at one height to discourage pecking and a poop board with PDZ for easy cleanup. How many chickens do you have?
We are in the coop building process with nesting boxes accessible from the outside.I am considering using dish pans or litter pans in the nest boxes for easier cleaning. My husband says they'll knock them over. Has anyone experience with this concept?
LOL pblakneyjr! I was thinking the same thing!!! My husband is building my coop this spring and since I will be gone for the entire month of May (and would like to have eggs to gather when my mom is here from September through December!) I will start with pullets. However, I do want to add some...

I'm sorry... I assumed that I posted in the Central California section of the "Where am i? Where are you?" forum. Thank you for the info and link to the breed chart, Ridgerunner :)
Hi All!
We are getting started on our first coop and I have a few questions regarding chicken breeds for this part of the state. Given how HOT and dry it is here in Madera County for most of the year, which breeds do best in this climate? I would like to get a few different, unique birds, but...
We are preparing to build our first coop and can't decide/agree on which way to orient the whole thing. Does it matter which way the coop faces, i.e. should the nesting boxes be on a particular side of the coop or do the girls care where they lay their eggs? I want to put them on the west side...
