What to do thing a 15 month old EE that has never laid a egg?

My 14 month old EE laid eggs every day from 6 months until 1 year, and hasn't laid an egg since March 1. She eats and drinks normally, but is also kind of a loner. Not sick, just no eggs. I'm puzzled too.

Help! Are Plumeria Leaves Poisonous to year old pullets??

We bought a plumeria 'stick' in Hawai'i this March and it has finally started to sprout some leaves! We live in Oregon and it's finally warm enough to put the plant (along with the Meyer's Lemon tree) in the sun during the day....we do still bring them in at night. I noticed today that the girls...

Questions about Egg-Laying throughout the year

HI Everyone, I read the post about the usual reasons chickens stop laying. I couldn't really find an answer to what is going on with one of my girls. I have 5 hens, and on March 1, 2013 they all turned 1 year old. I feed them a locally produced feed, they free range in my fenced back yard, and...

    Special Garden Just For Chickens?

Last year was our first year with chickens. We let them free range and tried to keep them out of the garden. Yah, that didn't work. They went outside at 8 weeks old in May and about 2 weeks later when we planted our garden with the seed starts from the house, the chickens ate EVERYTHING except...

What time do your chickens go into their coop

My girls will sit out all night if I let them! We usually 'shoo' them in around 8 or 9 PM in the winter....last summer we were making them go to bed around 10PM. We lock them in the run, and if they don't go into the coop to sleep, oh, well. They are in a very safe run/coop.They do end up in the...

What treat did your chickies get today?

Today I gave the girls some leftover salad with 3 cherry tomatoes in it...it was hilarious! Rhody grabbed one tomato and ran off, chased by Moa. Moa grabbed it from her and Squirt started to chase Moa. Rhody was crying because her tomato got stolen, so I tossed one to her and she started to...

Chickens won't go to bed in below freezing temps!

Noooo...we turned off the light, and waited and waited. It's almost 7PM here, pitch dark and 13 degrees. We just got in from tossing them into the coop. I hope they go to bed on their own soon! It's so cold! It was 1 degree this morning when I unlocked the coop. We locked them in last night, too...

Chickens won't go to bed in below freezing temps!

but....the heat lamp was no problem from September - December??? We turned it on in September when we had freezing night temps...they didn't start staying out of the coop until December when it was 18 degrees to -4 degrees. And last May and June, they stayed in when it was 32 at night and the...

Chickens won't go to bed in below freezing temps!

WOW, I never even thought of this! We haven't seen any predators in our area, although, I did smell a skunk last night. We have a 6 foot fence all around our backyard, but I also know this does not deter many predators. Haven't seen any snakes, but that doesn't mean anything. And if I had, I'd...

Chickens won't go to bed in below freezing temps!

Hm. It's the same coop they've been in since 8 weeks old. Before that, they were in our office in a brooder with the red heat light on all the time. I didn't know that chickens could dislike a place after 8 months, but I suppose it's possible. The light is a red light...the same type (although...

Chickens won't go to bed in below freezing temps!

Hello, I have 5 chickens who are 10 months old. We put them outside in our chicken coop/run at 8 weeks old. All summer and fall, they learned how to push the clear 'doggie door' to get into the coop at night and out again in the morning. They have been laying one egg each a day since August...

Help! Should I go to the vet- Light Brahma attacked by German Shepherd and has two puncture wounds

Here are the five girls...(Foggy the Leghorn, Bo the Plymouth Barred, Moa the Ameraucana, Rhody the RIR, and Squirt the Light Brahma) you can see Squirt has some ragged tail feathers, but she is doing very well. The puncture wounds are healing nicely. My five girls are eating an immature ear of...

Help! Should I go to the vet- Light Brahma attacked by German Shepherd and has two puncture wounds

Thanks Everyone! Here's an update on Squirt...I called the vet and described what happened and sent her a picture of the puncture wounds. She said that as long as I kept them cleaned, and sprayed the vetricin and kept an eye on her, she should be OK. After a couple of days, she is laying again...

Help! Should I go to the vet- Light Brahma attacked by German Shepherd and has two puncture wounds

Hi Everyone, I am beside myself with grief and loathing! Crying my eyes out- how could I not double check on my chicken babies! I let my German Shepherd and Yorkie out in the back yard tonight for the last pee (they are couch potatoes who sleep in the floor in our room and on the bed- Yorkie-...

My young hens don't eat their vegetables

We are just going to plant in stages next year the 'chicken chard garden'. They keep away from everything else, so I don't mind sharing the chard if they eat the earwigs!

My young hens don't eat their vegetables

My teens won't eat scraps either. However, they will do tricks to try and jump the fence to get to the Swiss chard growing in the garden. We planted a little red wagon full of chard and they ate it down to the ground in 2 days! They also only like greens that are growing, like lettuce or...
