A farmer was cutting the field across from me and scared up a turkey off her nest, then brought me the eggs. After 10-12 days they hatched. They are sprayed legged and just scoot about. I have been told to feed them non medicated chick feed and read that they have to be taught to eat and drink...
Tuesday, if you have iPhone or iPad there is a great app that tells you development everyday and reminders when to candle and lockdown. It is called HatchaBatch
OMG, I just did the math, I went yesterday to pick up 10 blue copper marans, but brought home 11 plus 11 black marans. So I added up and now have 54 chickens plus 5 eggs to hatch next week. What am I going to do? Of these, 17 are out in the coop, the rest are brooder babies. My new 4 room coop...
Well, just figured out my new 4 stall coop is not going to be large enough. I need 6 new coop stalls. I was planning on expanding it next summer but may have to figure out something else. So many chickies, so few coops.
No more shipped eggs, out of my dozen I have 4 viable eggs. 5 were clear and 3 quit. I cannot spend $55.00 for 4 Amerucana chicks. So disappointed. That is asumming these 4 make it to hatch next week. I never expect them all to make it, but 5 clear??? Ok off my soapbox.
Welcome, I am in Kentucky,. You will find many friendly people here. And answers to any question you may have.
When I stopped working 10 years ago I never dreamed I would be so buse with gardening, canning, quilting, and our sweet Chickies. Lots of things to do.
I plan on keeping it running to sell chicks. I will also use styro to hatch as I use the same one for hatching now. I just do not want to have so many incubators sitting out and Cabnet would take less room. I like that it is set it and (almost) forget it.
Thank you for your response, I have 3 styrofoam. I am sure I will go with the dickey now. I cannot find anyone with issues with them. By staggering yout hatches you are making the most of it, I was going to get the 2x2 but since your comment maybe the other one would be best.
Thinking of buying a dickeys incubator, does anyone have any faults with them. and what about electronic vs waffle heating.
Why is auto correct always messing up what I want to say? I hate it.
My first Ameraucanas go into lockdown today, I have 3 BBS eggs. I bought a dozen wheaten/ blue wheaten that are still cooking. They are cute chickens, hope all 3 of these hatch.
