We have 5, 30 week old hens (2 black austrolorps and 3 easter eggers) The farm down the street was selling some of their 2 1/2 RIR to replenish their flock. I brought 8 of them home along with a young (under a year) Black Austrolorp rooster. HHHHOOOOWWWW do I mix these flocks? Should I mix the...
I completely understand! My 30 week old easter eggers just started laying 2 days ago, Our Black Austrolorps who are the same age have been laying for a month or so (still, on the late side in my opinion). I have found when the birds reach maturity during the end of summer/fall eggs are a little...
There has been no sickness, death or anything unusual. They usually free range all day but i have been keeping them in more because i wanted them to start laying on the coop. I was gone all day yesterday but my husband said they had food and water. The water was dry this morning but all the...

Are my chicks getting too big for their britches? They are flying out of their brooder and seem perfectly happy out of the lamp. I feel bad putting a cover over their brooder if flying and roosting is what they want to do. I bought them as day old chicks on April 18. Your thoughts....
Hey everyone-I am new here and somewhat new to raising chickens. I saw something I have never seen before today, I brought the girls some apple cores and they were doing their usual "pecking order" thing which I have seen before. But out of nowhere another hen jumped ON TOP of the other, kinda...
