Your new birds did start laying? That's awesome and give me some hope. Mine definitely have been through allot.
I was out of state for a while and it was during this time everything went wrong, though I can't blame the person charged with their care... she works 60+ hour weeks. If a...
Well I was for sure gonna wait till the younger birds were ready to move in, I guess I'm really just worried they are permanently messed up or something lol
Hey y'all,
I got a bunch of chickens last spring, 13 over all. Pretty much an unknown on the gender front.
So over the summer hawks, dogs, and disease ripped through my flock, reducing numbers by over 75% to just 3 birds.
Of the three remaining chickens, one is for sure a rooster...
Whatever it is called, if you are letting your chickens roam around in a large enough run or out in the yard during the day you're doing better than what you could buy in the super market. Mine have only been in their new coop.run for a few days, so they arent allowed out yet. I hope to let...
I think you are right, I was mistaken before.. I was just out at the run and the ones that were out in the open have white legs, sold to me as buff orps. Dunno about the ones I couldnt see but Im assuming they are all the same. And i want to confirm that you most likely have pullets, my roos...
I think they are all pullets. My eight buff orpingtons are a straight run and around the same age (they also look very much the same, with the yellow legs like your middle one) and it is pretty obvious via the comb who is what. I'm not going to say it is 100%, but four of them have protruding...
I agree with Hagan, dont spray chemicals on your lawn and they should be fine for the most part. I have let my flock range from a very young age and they seem to avoid the toxic plants. They definitely developed a taste for their favorites and will seek them out over other edible but less...
I disagree on the apple seed, your allergies sound worse..
I also would say there is a difference in raw milk vs pasteurized, and the benefits are not just the fats but also the probiotics and microbs for a healthy gut. Same with yogurt, which is why I would rather give them love fat with live...
I'm going to be faced with the same problem in a few months, I have to choose one of four buff Orpington roos to keep with seven hens and two banties (one roo one Hen). I really like all the suggestions here, and while I'm no expert I'd just like to add that your personal situation will change...
These are tough situations, but like you said technically you're covered. I'd not get rid of your roo, but instead take bobbi-j's advice and try to engage the children. Kids do love animals lol
Plus (and don't take this in a negative, malicious sort of way) by endearing the kids to your...
Not trying to sound harsh, so if that's how I came off I apologize. Just I would hate for this to turn into a way bigger problem.
Just speak with them, preferably in person, and be frank. I bet they will be a fair bit embarrassed but will readily take your advice and help and be more...
Don't go into your neighbors yard... that's trespassing and around here at least frowned upon pretty heavily.
Speak to him about your issues when you see them, or if you feel it's urgent, knock on their door. You can say whatever you want, up to and including demanding them back if you think...
I let my 2-3 week old chicks out as often as possible, under strict supervision of course. They do their thing for a couple hours or so and then get tired and start looking for shade to lay in. When they move outside permanently I plan on leaving them in the open coop/run for a week before...
Is it inside or on the outside of the vent?
Does it look like an injury or an internal bleeding thing?
Did you perform general first aid (clean and inspect, try and stop bleeding, etc.)?
How long ago did this happen?
I'll be honest, I'm not the best person to give advice, but lets try...
That's good. Sometimes even the best pups forget themselves in a fit of excitement. Sounds like he is more concerned with your approval than his impulses which is great. Did I mention I was wicked jealous??? llol
Edit: are you conus? If so, would you mind sharing the breeder/kennel from...
Dachshund is how you spell "dox-in", and is the breed name for weiner dog, yes ;)
GSP is pretty closely related to the Weim so you are giving me hope. Lady has not met them physically but she has that same expression when she looks at them through the brooder screen. Hopefully with training...
I too was scared the first time I saw any out of the ordinary poops, but when a chick did actually get sick (pasty butt) it was pretty obvious. I've been advised (just as you were I think) that Sulmet is strong stuff and not to be used lightly. I believe there are other, gentler, antibiotics...
