What breed might have these characteristics...in order of priority?
1. Be cold hardy and lay through the winter
2. Good forager and alert
3. A moderate size frame
4. Interesting plumage and egg color

I have 1 rooster and 6 hens. One broody hen disappeared onto a nest with 7 eggs. only 3 hatched...I broke the other 4 and none showed any sign of development...does this mean my Roo is not too potent?
I incubated 25 eggs: 8 from one mail order, 8 from another and 9 from another.
I got 6 live chicks and one live but impaired chick I had to cull.

The last egg of this batch hatched at 23 days....but the chick flips around, mostly on its back with feet in the air and the neck bent back constantly chirping? any ideas?
