Getting them to use the next boxes

You could probably get the golf balls down the road.....

    Crossing the road

Fencing would be the ideal solution, but at the moment it's too much money to fence an acre. We do have a run for them, so that when we aren't here, they can be outside, but safe. We do want to be respectful of the neighbors and their property, and of course don't want any chickens killed by...

    Crossing the road

I don't care why the chicken crossed the road. I know it's to show a squirrel how it's done! What I'd like to know is if there is any way to stop them from doing it? They have a wonderful large yard to free-range in, but at some point in the day, they get to the front of the house and...

Can two roosters remain in flock?

Thanks for such a quick answer! Yes, they were all chicks raised together in the same brooder box. I really want this to work out, as it would be hard to choose one to part with. My granddaughter would be upset, too.

Can two roosters remain in flock?

It turns out we have two roosters in our flock of 13. Hagar, the Jersy Giant, seems to be the real leader, but now that the second Roo has revealed himself, I wonder if they will be able to live together. Hagar has had some domination tussels with the other, but nothing awful yet. Can we...

    Poison ivy

Thanks for the input. I have had poison ivy; twice bad enough to need injections. It's always in the back of my mind this time of year. The chickens aren't big on letting me pick them up, so that won't be much of a problem.

    Poison ivy

We will be letting the chickens free range in the yard, soon. There is lots of poison ivy at the edge of the woods. First of all, will they try to eat it, and if they do, will it harm them? And this may sound crazy, but if they eat it, will the "poison" get into the eggs? I'm terribly...

    Pacement of feeder

Thanks to you both. Mice and other birds eating the food is our concern, as well. The chickens will free-range when one of us is outside and the door to the run will be open so they can get water whenever they want. I imagine they will find the dogs' outside dish as well. Karen

    Pacement of feeder

So, the coop is almost set up. My daughter thinks the feeder should go inside the coop. Is that where it should go? The water will be outside in the run so that the inside won't get wet. We are trying to learn from others' experiences. Thanks in advance for the input!

    Baby Treats?

Is chopped up grass good? They are still in the brooder box, and two weeks old.

    Hello from RI

My daughter got her first chickens last week and directed me to this site. Looks like it's packed with information, and I think I'll have fun here. k-ddid
