    Chickens aren’t eating chicken feed

3 would be my ideal number. I just have to make sure I can provide the best care before I commit. I love chickens and animal welfare. I like to spoil my pets.

    Chickens aren’t eating chicken feed

I would love to have the buff Orpington hen. I need to research more on how I can make it work. On my way to work, I snapped a picture of these wild chickens. I don’t know how they survive. Are those heat tolerant breeds? I know the picture isn’t the best since I was in the car. I live in...

    Chickens aren’t eating chicken feed

The uncle said they will keep the chickens until they have chicks…THEN they will get rid of them. They just want to show their kids the chicken reproduction process. I explained to him that the rooster will get them in trouble with the city: he will crow at 3-4am and disturb the neighbors. I...

    Chickens aren’t eating chicken feed

I need to vent. My uncle’s family came back from their week trip, and my uncle said he’s going to get rid of the chickens by letting them free in downtown Miami (we have stray chickens there). Why the heck did he make me take care of his chickens for a week if he’s just going to throw them...

    Chickens aren’t eating chicken feed

Thank you so much. That’s why I decided I’m not going to get chickens of my own right now. I already have too much on my plate (pet-wise). I will live vicariously through you guys! :D The summer heat taught me all I needed to know. I can’t stand being outside in this heat. Lol

    Chickens aren’t eating chicken feed

Thank you. I learned a ton just from this forum. The male can be on chick feed indefinitely, but the hen will need to be on layer feed once she starts laying. The uncle will give them the proper diet once they come back from their trip. The chicks are currently getting a good diet. :) I’m...

    Chickens aren’t eating chicken feed

You are 100% correct. The coop is extremely tiny for these chickens. They bought them as tiny chicks, and probably didn’t anticipate them growing this fast or big. They impulsively purchased the chicks at a carnival of some sort. They know absolutely nothing about chickens. I made a ton of...

Chickens in the city coop cleaning?

Thank you. I agree with you. It’s not a good idea because I do prioritize clean areas. When I had chickens, I had a tarp on the bottom that I would hose off. It wasn’t difficult. I think having a pine bedding would be a pain for me because it would be annoying to remove and replace it...

Chickens in the city coop cleaning?

I don’t have a lawn. Just my front lawn, but cars pass by it, so it’s a bad idea. I was thinking of just having a coop and letting them free run without an actual run. All my flooring is made of the same brick, unfortunately.

Chickens in the city coop cleaning?

Hi everyone, I haven’t had a chicken in over a decade. I’m watching my uncle’s chickens for 10 days while they are on vacation, and it is making me reminisce about those good times. The reason we don’t have chickens anymore is because our rooster disturbed the neighbors, so we had to get rid...

    Chickens aren’t eating chicken feed

I’m wanting to have chickens again. I’ve been having so much fun these past few days. I miss owning chickens. If I were to get them, I would only purchase hens. No roosters. I don’t know what to feel. I love chickens so much. I think they might be my favorite animal of all time. They are...

    Chickens aren’t eating chicken feed

It was raining today, and the only dry spot was in the box. There is a ladder leading up to the brooding area. That’s it.

Also, does anyone have any ideas on how to control the mosquitos? They are attracted to me like a magnet and it’s extremely unbearable. I live in Florida, and it’s been raining all day. Here’s a picture of the bedding.

@NatJ Do these pictures help you narrow the breed of the male? And a video:

    Chickens aren’t eating chicken feed

I already bought the pine bedding and chick food. They love the food. I’ll take a picture of the bedding. They love it, too. I put a brick on a baking pan and used that as their food bowl because the male kept knocking the bowl down and kicking the food around. 😅

    Chickens aren’t eating chicken feed

That’s what happened to me. When I was young I got chicks and chickens. We bought a rooster, and it started crowing. The police/City of Miami told us we weren’t allowed to have chickens because they disturb the neighbors and are farm animals. They gave us a week notice to get rid of them or we’d...
