Awww! I really like the names Rose and Marianne. And "chicken" is a VERY BEAUTIFUL name by the way. :P
Also, I like human names much better than "pet" names. I named Meow when I was way younger...
Well, I'm kind of switching from less than an acre to a small farm. You know what that means? MORE CHICKENS!
These are the breeds I'm thinking about getting....
Leghorn
Barred Rock
Orpington
Ancona
Delaware
Millefleur
Pekin
Bantam Wyandotte
And some quails!
Any name suggestions? Here are my...
I keep forgetting something to add, sorry!
There's cayenne pepper in bother her food and scratch grains, and I don't let her free range unsupervised so she can't be laying somewhere else. It could be that she just hasn't started laying- the farmer said that she just started but there were other...
I just got a Silkie hen two weeks ago and she still hasn't laid. Silkies aren't exactly egg machines, but I didn't think they would go this long without laying. The other chicken I got at the same time (an EE) has started laying. She is undoubtedly a hen... so what's going on?
I've had my Ameraucana/RIR hen, Big Red, for a little over a week. She lays blue eggs that are bigger than an x-large store egg daily. She's really sweet to my other hens, even my silkie bantam. The only problem is well... she's HUGE! It's OK though, her personality and eggs make up for it.
All Bredas /should/ have feathery legs, but I guess some don't make the standard.
I'm pretty sure that they're the only chickens without combs. So she could be a breda mix.
Have fun with that... egg eating is hard to cure.... but I would say to cull her, or blow out an egg and fill it with hot sauce. >:D
Or just threaten to sell her to KFC. That never fails. Lol.
Also, I have no experience with Bredas but I know some about them, but most hens start laying at 5 to 6 months. Mine started laying a week apart, and they were just about to turn 5 months old. I have a Marans and a Barred Rock.
She looks like a Breda Fowl to me. Only combless breeds are born without combs, in other breeds they're just small... so yeah, Breda Fowl.
