It's a good idea to call the post office and let them know you expect live chicks and give them your phone number. Ask them kindly to call you ASAP once they get them. That way they won't stay in the cold for too long.
No reason to kill them, it's let's say... normal, for chickens, no matter how clean you keep your coup to get mites. They can transfer from wild birds for example, something you cannot control.
Go to a feed store and ask for some powder for lices and mites specially for poultry. You have to...
They are red with some whitish feathers on the back, brown egg layers. Someone here said they bought them and I cannot remember the name of the breed. Please help!
Great job!
Could you tell us the aproximate cost, not including your work...
My husband wanted the same thing, a nice looking building with limited space for roaming and no odor. Maybe I should start building
Am I the only one who can't really figure out how this works? Are the eggs supposed to roll into the tray? And then what is the lid for?
Sorry, I'm confused
Funny you say that, I have Carlos (don't even ask where the name is coming from), around 20 weeks old EE, who recently started running after me every morning when I let them out. I don't like being attacked behind my back, and considering I have a 17 month old daughter, I decided he's becoming...
Oh my God, mine shipped today also. I was so hoping I'll get them tomorrow and not Friday. After all Georgia is not that far away from Texas. So there is hope...
I just can't wait any longer...
I think I'm the only crazy person who ordered 18 different breeds
Monique, just wanted to say when I grow up I wanna be like you I totally envy you.
Anyway, I think I missed some part of the story. Who's Lucy? I have to go back and re-read...
Did you place the order online? I wanted to do that and then had so much trouble with their website that I called. And guess what? Online they showed the chicks as "available" and when I called they postponed them for a week, saying they don't have any of the reds I wanted. So if I were you I'd...
Thank you so much for your answer.
So if I'd find a way to grind the crumbles, could I say that is mash?
I'm pretty new to English terminology when it comes to raising chickens. So I go and I buy 3 and the guy tells me he feeds them "mash". I didn't want to sound stupid so didn't ask anymore...
Can someone please tell me what is the laying mash? The feed store I go to seems to have just crumbles and pallets and I bought some chickens that were fed mash. What is that?
I'm not sure I understand you right, but are these the first eggs she ever layed? If yes, don't expect her to be broody right now.
It's funny how you say you show her the egg. Sorry to dissapoint you but that won't help .
You will know when your hen goes broody because she will do nothing all day but sit on some eggs. Maybe she would come down once per day to eat and drink but besides that she'll just keep the eggs warm.
So, if you notice this kind of behaviour, yes, you can leave the egg underneath her. If...
