Day 13 Need help to make moving decision

I'm no expert, but I would say it could kill them. They need stability; in both warmth, humidity and movement. A jolty ride could damage them. Maybe it wouldn't kill them all and a couple would survive. The choice is yours, good luck, and if you have to move them then just do it. Don't feel...

    ascites? Acites?

I have a hen with the tail down and a squishy huge abdomen. I have posted two separate threads on here about it, and after much deliberation and vet trips, I think its ascites. How do I drain? is it advised to do this? Should ANOTHER vet trip be in order?

    Hen with tail down update

Thanks for the pictures! Very interesting and informative! She is laying an egg a day though, although the eggs are porous and sometimes mis-shapen slightly. Should I still check inside the vent?

    Hen with tail down update

Aww. glad she is ok now! I wonder how I could make her better! I have tried everything. Shall I pen her with her friends away from the cockerel? Being mated with while you're being ill can't make you feel any better! Or doe the interaction of the flock help her? Im just at a loss lol.

    Hen with tail down update

Sometimes she gets bullied, so she tends to hang out with the young chicks from this years hatch. I think she is low in the pecking order for sure. Animals don't like weakness, do they?!

    Are these Leghorns Roosters?

Wow, there's such a difference between the first three and the last pic that it leaves me to believe that the others are roo's. Should start crowing at 16-20 weeks so see what happens then. What will you do with the roo's?

New mother of 7 feathered daughters in Alpine, San Diego

There's loads of good information on here. All they need is to be kept clean, warm, fed and watered. No doubt you'll encounter problems along the way. Just type the problem into the search bar and away you go. Good luck being a first time chicken Mommy! It's very rewarding!

    Hen with tail down update

Yeah I check regularly for mites and she has none. The vet checked her poop for worms and she had none so the worming treatment that I use definitely works. The smell has gone so I take it that the infection has gone. She's eating, drinking, co-operating as part of the flock, mating and stooping...

How to "Mark" Chickens for Identification

you can buy leg rings from ebay? If they are young chickens then colouring feathers may not work as they could moult them. If you cant get the rings, how about you make your own from coloured cable ties tied v, loosely around their leg? You need to make sure that they dont tighten up more though...

    Hen with tail down update

A few months ago, I posted about my hen. I bought her from someone I knew. I got her home and saw that she was riddled with mites, she stank to high heaven of infection and her tail was down. I cleared up her mite problem and then fed her various things like pain relief concoction I made and...

    Need To Vent...

Hi, I would be exactly the same. It was their responsibility not to let the dog loose around your animals, especially when it was clear that the dog doesn't like the animals and already showed some biting behaviour. It's not the dog's fault of course, it's in the dog's nature I guess, but the...
