Ok everybody. MAYBE this is important info….or not.
Today I spent about an hour sitting and observing the new duck. “It” makes little, quiet chirpy or squeaky sounds. They are not identical to my 3 year old hen, but it definitely isn’t raspy or huffing.
At this age (about 3 months old)...
When I picked the duck up, I was told that several others in that same clutch were already processed and in the freezer because they were so large. There were also two others with this duck that were larger than it is. So she thought those were also drake’s. But there were 3 others that all...
When you mentioned it might be a drake, I started getting suspicious myself based on an article I read about the “top 10 ways to gender ID a Muscovy”. The tail is more fan shaped than my older hen. It’s also taller, having a slightly different build. Unfortunately it doesn’t make any sounds yet...
Would appreciate your help!
New duck here, hatched the end of June. The lady I bought it from was pretty sure it was a hen. That’s what I was after, but I am no expert, so I went by her judgment. I will attach some photos and links on YouTube of videos I took.
New duck is around the same size...
Thank you! So nice to hear from you! As you probably read, sadly we had to put Georgie down last week.
I will give your suggestions a shot. I’d rather not drag this out any longer than necessary. The post above yours just mentioned the duck looks male. Oh my gosh. I’m hoping NOT!
Oh my gosh. That was one of my fears. What makes you think so? The farm I got her from seemed to be fairly certain, based on comparisons within the same clutch, that it is a hen. I’m praying you’re wrong (no offense). I don’t want or need a drake. 🫤
Thanks so much!
Yes, the new duck is also a Muscovy.
I figured out how to divide my small coop in half, using bottom grates of small animal cages. It is working well. I did leave food and water for the new duck only. I typically don’t, but she had an almost 2 hour ride home and didn’t eat or...
I searched the archives and only one thread was even remotely similar to my situation. Most people are introducing one duck to a flock, or babies to a flock, or at least more than one duck to one duck.
Back story: I had a pekin and a Muscovy, both hens. They were almost 3 years old and pretty...
I sadly had to have one of my 2 ducks PTS Tuesday. I need to find a new friend for my Muscovy, Weezie. I’m in SE Michigan. Any leads would be appreciated. Thank you!
Thank you. I will do what I can. She is heavy, and nearing 3 years old. I’m sure there is at least some arthritis from what I’ve read about heavy breeds of ducks. My main problem is that we have a goldfish pond about 16x30 feet. There is no way I can keep her out that is practical. I spent all...
I have a pekin that’s almost 3 years old. I got her when she was a year old in the spring of 2022, and she came with a severe case of bumblefoot on both feet. She had surgery at a vet clinic, but the vet didn’t really remove all of it. So between myself, my adult son, my husband, and the...
I ended up assisting the chick out. It would have never hatched. It was completely shrink wrapped. The membrane was dry. There was no blood whatsoever. I doubt it will survive. Perhaps if I had intervened sooner, but it is so weak. The toes are completely curled, and it’s as if it’s having a...
Thank you so much! Out of 31 shipped eggs, so far I have 17 chicks. I moved all but one (not all the way dry) to the brooder late yesterday afternoon. This morning they seem to be doing very well.
I have a concern. One egg has pipped but is not zipping. I noticed it after I moved the babies to...
