Rob I like your idea. I actually just started duckweed today finally found a supplier here in Tucson. Was a little pricy but if it goes as planned will be worth it.
Okay here is a picture of my sons beetles with a picture of one if mine. The size is incredibly different. Any ideas on what they might be or like I was told earlier just smaller mealworms adults?
Okay thanks, I will try and take a picture of them next to one of mine as a comparison. But it's possible cause I keep mine in the garage and he keeps his in his room. Thanks
I hear everyone talking about mites. I checked on my sons system that he keeps for his lizard and saw an infestation of tiny beetles not sure what the are or the easiest way to get rid of them. I was going to dump the bin to my chickens and have him start over. Any advice would be thankful.

It was a lot of reading :).
Up date on my colony. I started small in a 4X4 container. When I got beetles I moved them to a bigger bin. Today I was cleaning out my porch and found the original 4X4 container and noticed there was still some oats in there. Went to wash it and saw hundreds of...
Started reading this tread about a month ago and finally got through the whole thing. I have a single bin system going due to the low maintaince of it. After reading a few post decided to go to local pet store and purchased 200 more mealies to start a second bin today. Just in case of tragedy...
