Joe,
WE have 9 Wellsummer hens, and one mutt rooster. The rest are inside (for now), and are English Game Hens, one EE, and 2 Black Star roos. We like the little ones, and maybe we can get some nice looking chicks out of the deal and supplement the "useless eaters" by selling them.
The coop...
Well we lost two birds that needed to be culled, they were in bad shape. Had kept them segregated from the rest. One had an accident in the coop wound up with a broken neck, deemed a suicide. So we have nine left and our rooster seems to be a really good one. He watches the sky and gets grumpy...
Yeah, I found some extra hardware cloth lying around, gonna tack it up there, just in case. I think you're being overparanoid. And I thought I built Fort Knox.
Thanks!
LOL I appreciate it, but we have no bears, and our foxes get run over before they get big enough to do any damage, they are pretty stupid. I ahve never heard yotes anywhere near us, and I've tried calling them in.
And I think your right about cold air vents down low.....
Why would other birds...
LOL, you guys slay me. I'm not putting hardware cloth up there. All sides of the coop are going to be clad with aluminum 4X8 sheets, and if those vermin can climb up that AND manage to reach the chicken wire (and chew it apart without breaking teeth), eat hearty lads!
Unless they can levitate...
Joe, pictures of the place aren't out of the question. I'll see what I can do there.
Yepp that's about it folks, I need to put on two more sections of awning, paint, and get the thing sided with aluminum.
Fort Apache.....good luck to the vermin trying to get in.
THANKS!
More to come...
Ok well this is my last update without pictures, I promise!
The coop is (mostly) done, and the wellies are spending their first night outside! I am going out to check on them after I post this, and then am going to bed myself.
All the remains is paint, nesting boxes, and aluminum siding. And...
Actually you guys we were on the road, on our way to East Fork State Park to do some squatchin. So we were on the highway, and making good time too, mostly because I am fearless. I would have been worried about the house, and all that crap, but I had my buddy up the road feeding chickens, and...
As some of you may know, MOST of Ohio got wiped out by a wretched storm two weeks ago. We got it as well. Power was out for 7 days.....and it was a challenge. The good news is, the coop survived the 80-100 mph winds! So did most of our roof (on the house). At any rate, the place is a mess, Lost...
Forward progress. One drawback using re~purposed lumber, Everything is cut necessitating ALOT of cutting, and wedging. And to be honest, I probably went overboard on all the battens to ensure security. But live chickens are worth a little more time spent.
(BELOW) This is the windward side of...
