    Raising it might be an idea. It certainly would help my wife to not have to bend over accessing it. As for not liking the other ideas, I respect that, but don't really care. I have a dog too, and he doesn't bother the chickens. They crawl all over him. The issue is other critters here...

    Web Cams?

    I use a cheap baby monitor. Mostly I just want to be woken up if there is a scuffle. The unfortunate part is when my wife turned it off, so I didn't hear a dog get in and take out half my flock. Sad day.

    Who has light/nightlight in coop?

    Yeah, I use a solar light too. I have it at the edge of their pen, but mostly to attract bugs for the chicks to dig into at dusk. I've definetly had less flying insects around the house at night, so I assume it's working.
