So it's been a long time since started thread. Blackie is a rooster and now lives on an organic farm and is charge of a huge flock. He's awesome!!! We go visit him often. I miss him still but his owner mails me photos often. We have 4 hens now and introducing 6 new ones on Monday! All about to...
yes. I just stapled sheets to ventilation areas of coop so that they will be safe tonight. Also spoke to a chicken farmer who said to keep them in coop until noon tomorrow...the chemical should burn off by then from sun. I won't eat eggs for a week just to be safe. I am sure it is fine but I...
I am really concerned because friday night in dallas they are doing an aerial spray for west nile. Are our chicken's safe in coop at night? They have open ventilation I thought we would cover with sheets but what I am worried about the next morning and the yard they roam around in, mostly gravel...
we have sand in our closed coop area and it is super easy to clean up with a kitty litter shovel a few times a week. and pea gravel all around 20X20 area outside of coop and my husband just hoses it all down once a week so poop drains to bottom of gravel, again SUPER EASY!
This is Ci-Ci. Ci-Ci is about 17 weeks old and a sweet Hen. She has not been her normal self....She has been lethargic and closing her eyes A LOT. We are worried about her. Something isn't right. We wormed her about 2 weeks ago. It is getting pretty hot here in Texas...but the others are fine...

Wow. This was really helpful. I am glad I posted photos! Blackie LOVES to sit in my lap. Here is another photo. I guess we will find him a new home...don't really feel like dealing with fertile eggs and angry neighbors. :(
We will miss blackie THE ROOSTER!
Thanks for the info, this helps out a lot. Should we separate him from the hens? we don't want baby chicks just eggs so we don't really know what to do. looks like we are going to need to find him a good home.
Here is our Blackie! Our FAVORITE. We think Blackie may be a rooster based on a noise we heard this morning. We are new to having chickens and thought someone could help. We LOVE Blackie and are praying it is a Hen! Can anyone help by the photos? I think we are in denial. I have a friend who's...
