The beatings have stopped.. but we are still having hen issues..

Ill try moving Lily out for a bit- Funny thing is Lil used to be the low girl on the totem pole- last year after my grey hen died Lil decided she was taking the helm. She just a mean mean chicken. She used to "beat up" on the rooster in the other coop.

The beatings have stopped.. but we are still having hen issues..

So 2 weeks later they've stopped picking on my new girl, Willie. She really likes my rooster, and she loves to stroll around the yard with the group. My blackstar, Sissy has left her alone for the most part but my mutt-hen Lily has not let up at all- they are fine during the day doing a good job...

    Puppy with bad knees.

very well said Brandywine- I couldnt' have said it any better myself. After seeing the absolute hell several of my close friends have gone through with their dogs the past year, I cannot stress how important it is to do your homework before purchasing your puppy from a breeder. It has taken...

Be responsible for your dogs !!!(graphic pics)

Quote: Are you seriously joking? I really hope that you never find yourself with a prey driven dog. You would really kill a dog because they have prey drive? wow. I have 3 prey driven dogs who I know would kill a cat, chicken or other small animal if given the chance- I know this and...

Re-Hi All- Old face new name.

Hi all- I was on here several years ago as "majicka" - I had a small flock of 8 chickens back then- unfortunately nature has downsized my flock to 5- several of my hens passed away. We just added a RIR to our flock several days ago, and my girls are having issues accepting her. Just wanted to...

Introducing new Hen into established coop-issues-

Be responsible for your dogs !!!(graphic pics)

im so sorry you had to experience this- I am a dog owner- and all 3 of my dogs are prey driven- one extremely prey driven. I also own cats and chickens. My dogs have their fenced in yard- the cats and chickens have the rest -- if the dogs are out of their fenced yard, they are leashed and...

R There docile, pure-breed, standard size, AMERICAN chickens?

My black sexlinks are dolls- I've had 4 of them over the last 6 years (2 passed on). They are so mellow and laid back.

Introducing new Hen into established coop-issues-

Well she's getting smarter and learning to avoid the "mean girls" they are letting her get down and eat, but they still aren't being buddies. My mother in law keeps telling me I should take one of her former "cell mates" (my mother in law bought 5 other chickens from the same group ) and it...

Introducing new Hen into established coop-issues-

ok well they are still beating Willie up, it's almost gotten worse- She went into lay and Sissy who's not laying wouldn't even let her go in- in fact she pretended like she was laying herself and pushed her out. I finally pulled her out and let willie go in to lay. The poor chicken is perched...

    Uh Oh..we got a bear!

We've lived in Western PA for 6 years and we've had several bears come thru- yes they WILL mess with your chicken coops if they are hungry or curious enough. My best suggestion is bring your feeders in at night and spray either bleach or ammonia around your coops, it messes up their sense of...
