    sebright color crosses

Thank you for this thread. My 6 year old has an (assumed) unrelated GLS pair, and we are getting him a few more for Christmas. He shows them, and makes quite a killing off eggs and chicks. Thought about getting my 4 year some silvers, but didn't want to have to keep them separate. I guess this...

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

I have some show quality GLS eggs if anyone is interested in hatching them. We have 5 under our broody and all showed development at 10 days. I'm between Tampa and Lakeland, but will be driving to Gainesville tomorrow (Tuesday) if someone wants to meet me on the way along 75.

    Chicken/Goat water device...

Our chickens free range and so do our goats. We have a 5 gallon bucket up on a cinder block for the goats, with one cinder block next to it for our one little Nigerian goat to stand on to reach. The others are full size and reach without the block. It's on the block to keep the ducks from...

    LaMancha mix goats?

Our neighbor has a LaMancha buck and lots of different does. I'd say she gets 2/3+ babies with gopher or elf ears or more with the buck and none of the does are part LaMancha. Some are Boer cross and one was a Nigerian/Alpine/? cross.

thinking of getting goats? goat tips?

I'd look into all the different kinds of goats: Dairy goats (Nigerian Dwarfs are dairy goats) Market/Meat goats (Boers are meat goats) Or just any cute pet goat... mixed, etc. What do you want from your goat? Just a pet? Do you want to be able to sell babies for pets? milk? meat? Do you want...

Biting duck- PUHLEEZ help my toes!!!

We have a drake that sometimes acts this way. I think it's just "boy" behavior. He seems to be worse when anyone is near his girls' eggs/nest and when they are laying. He scared my 4 year old, but we learned that if you just chase him back he runs. He really loves my daughter (they are her ducks...

    help with duck eggs

We got 5 eggs on a Thursday (Muskovy nest that had been raided by a possum) and guessing from the one egg that was partially eaten, we figured if they didn't hatch in a week they probably wouldn't. Our incubator wasn't set up yet, but we figured it couldn't hurt. We had some temperature...

Help! New duck owner and they've stopped laying!

What kind of ducks are they? Our Pekin hens lay in bursts. We will get an egg almost every day for 3-6 weeks, then they will take a break and start again a few weeks later. I know it can be somewhat seasonal, but we are in Florida, so our seasons are all out of wack anyway. Our females...

Goats might not multiply as fast as chickens, but they multiply just the same! We have 4 now, but if we don't sell most of our kids when they are born- in less than 2 years I can see how we could be swimming in them. LOL.

Looks like his legs are made of rubber

I have a hen that had these issues over a year ago. I was super-scared that we had Mareks, but it turns out it's just some neurological issue/injury. She's just fine now, though still wobbles and stumbles more than a normal chicken. Otherwise she's healthy, though she had days when her legs seem...

    Coci

When I looked into Corid/Sulmet/wormer for ducks I found that ducks don't typically have problems with these diseases because of differences in the digestive system due to the vast amounts of water they consume. We've raised lots of ducks and have never seen any symptoms of these diseases in the...

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

We got more rain Saturday (6"!) than we did Thursday. Crazy. The ducks were in heaven. Chickens, not so much. The goats were downright mad.

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

It's just south of 301. Go north from I4, go through "Antioch" and it is on the left just past Franklin. There is a sign, and you go down a dirt drive. It's usually a happening place on Saturday. The "junk" auction is as 10am, and the livestock starts at 1 or 2 pm. We usually drop off animals...

We've never been, but I'm taking my daughter on the 8th since she has quite a few animals to sell. We will see how it goes. We have taken roos to the auction on north Macintosh. It's every Saturday and they go for pretty good money, IMO. Not sure why... I won't buy chickens there since I don't...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

So, my best broody is sitting on 3 duck eggs and 3 Aracana eggs. (The chicken eggs were put under her after the duck eggs had been there a week. We took 2 not-developing duck eggs away at the same time) Is she going to flip out when she has ducks under her or will she not know the difference and...

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Yes, let me know. My hubby will be driving up in June and could meet you along I75 with the eggs, but he'll be on a schedule, so it would be iffy I *might* be able to talk him into hens on the way back a week later. I'll have to bribe him. A lot. At least for the hens. Lots smellier than eggs...

Possibly pregnant doeling questions. Please help!

If she is newly pregnant and a good size (nearly full size) 8 months isn't really *that* bad for a ND as long as it's a small breed buck. I also agree that at 1-2 months she really shouldn't look huge or have an udder even if she was pregnant. Blood test is really your only way to know for sure...

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Nope, not NPIP. They are my daughter's for 4H and her chickens get tested at the fair, but they don't test the ducks anyway. Not sure why, but they only peek at them for anything obvious and that's that. That would be great, but Jacksonville is a bit far. We are between Tampa and Lakeland.
