okey listen I really really need chicken names

Ours are all names from I Love Lucy right now, but I think that's common. Our girls are Ethel, Mrs. Trumble, Carlota Romero, and Carolyne Appleby. Our Lucy died a few weeks ago. We were planning on another round of chicks sometime in the future, and we were thinking we would name them after...

3 of my 4 chickens have diarrhea, not sure what to do

Also, can I use the goat wormer for my chickens?

3 of my 4 chickens have diarrhea, not sure what to do

Ok perfect, I will look for those. I can definitely take the Wazine back, no problem there. I think I saw Safeguard there, so I can exchange for that. Thanks!

3 of my 4 chickens have diarrhea, not sure what to do

Thanks Enola, I'll correct that. So glad I brought this up so I could learn what I'm doing wrong. And nope, I've never wormed them ever. Thanks Eggcessive! I picked up some of the sulfadimethoxine and some wazine for any worms, but I'm in the process of seeing if I can borrow a microscope to...

3 of my 4 chickens have diarrhea, not sure what to do

I'm not sure these will show you much more than that they don't look sick (tails down, wings droopy, comb color, etc). The black ones are very hard to catch, but I can try to do that and get photos of their backsides and vents and post them here. Carolyne (left) Carlota Ethel...

3 of my 4 chickens have diarrhea, not sure what to do

I'm sorry. I'll post a few pics here in the thread. See, what you just said is why I ruled it out, but now I'm thinking again about it since people have been quick to mention it. My birds are all over 3 years old, closer to 4 and maybe 5 for some. They used to only live in the large coop that...

3 of my 4 chickens have diarrhea, not sure what to do

On another forum, I'm getting advice to treat for coccidia. I can totally do that if need be, but would coccidia only manifest itself with diarrhea? I have been reading on and off what those symptoms are and my girls aren't showing anymore symptoms besides diarrhea, and the diarrhea doesn't seem...

3 of my 4 chickens have diarrhea, not sure what to do

Oh, too small? I'm sorry! Did it not play a slideshow? Let me see if I can let you see them any bigger. Thanks for looking, by the way. :) I think I can get the Flock Raiser feed from the local Tractor Supply. I looked into it and it said it was 20%, like you said, which is great as I'm always...

    Whats wrong??

I've been reading up a bit on chicken diarrhea and ran across info that says that if you are experiencing hot weather, it could be that the chickens are just drinking a lot. You did say it was a year that this was happening? I'm having the same issue, sort of, and not a lot of eggs coming out of...

    possible sick hen

I thought fowl pox was more of a warm weather thing, like when mosquitoes are around? If so, it's probably a bit of frostbite. Perhaps put something on it like Blu-Kote to mask the red so the other chickens won't peck at her.

3 of my 4 chickens have diarrhea, not sure what to do

Thanks, it hadn't even occurred to me to put them on regular non-layer feed. Is that what most people do when their chickens are molting, or the days are short? Do you then switch back to layer feed once they start laying again? What about if one starts laying and the others don't? Do I then...

3 of my 4 chickens have diarrhea, not sure what to do

I'm reading some other threads here and googling information, and I'm thinking I should add this information: We are having quite a warm February. We are in Southern California, and temps have been in the upper 70s and low to mid 80s for the past few weeks. This week, we'll probably hit 90 at...

3 of my 4 chickens have diarrhea, not sure what to do

I'm not sure what the cause is, either, but I did lose a hen a couple of weeks ago to salpingitis. I've tried some basic things, like giving milk kefir in hopes of balancing out their gut flora, but it seems like it's not just a gut flora issue. I've added ACV to their water, but I just...

    Bleeding and molting??

A couple more thoughts--you might do some reading on mites. It is my understanding (through reading only) that mites can cause some irritation to the skin, but I'm not sure to that extent. Still, it's worth a check. Also, do you have any roosters? Sometimes a hen will lose their feathers over...

    Bleeding and molting??

First off, I would separate your bleeding girl from everyone else. You can put her in a clean dog crate so the other girls can't get at her, because it's possible that they are picking at her bloody areas. I don't know enough about chickens to know right off what this could be, but it's quite...

Chicken Necropsy Photos - Is this tumors?

Thank you, she was a good girl. I'll take a look around for those articles and educate myself better. Thanks for pointing me in that direction. Do you happen to know if there is a concern with my other chickens? I'm sure they have all been exposed to the same bacterias, but I'm thinking that...

Chicken Necropsy Photos - Is this tumors?

Thanks! You know---I ran across that article, read it and looked at the photos, and thought that myself. Only, would that mean that she was an internal layer? I didn't gather that lash eggs could be laid internally.

Oh Pinkjeanne, so sorry about your baby. I lost my girl today as well. Chickens are hard to diagnose.

Chicken Necropsy Photos - Is this tumors?

I lost my girl Lucy this morning, whom I hand-raised from a baby. I had her for a few years and she was a sweetheart, but I suspected something might have been wrong with her. Chickens are so good at hiding issues, though. I necropsied her today and found this: After a while, I found...

    Black and red sexlinks?!

I've raised red sexlinks for the past 3 years or so. They are really great, heat hardy, great layers--about 5 large brown eggs per week, most weeks--and very friendly. They don't go broody, so if you don't have need of that, these are great. Perfect if you want to keep a small flock.
