Yeah I guess I am looking for something similar to the Omlet that I can compare. I like a bargain as much as the next person, but since I have experience, I know exactly how much passion I do and don't have for making repairs. We sold our old coop. It was a shed we converted. It was ok for...
Yeah, that's what I thought. We did build/retrofit before, but we are not really handy by nature, so it was a lot for us. Especially when the hobby is more the birds themselves than the coop-building. I just wanted some other ideas to compare to the Omlet. Gtk about the ones at TSC. That...
Cool! Thank you for the idea. I think that's still probably too much for us, but I will keep it in mind in case we can't overcome the sticker shock of the manufactured coops!
Hello! I'm back getting ready keep chickens again after a 3-4 year break. We kept them for 3-4 years before rehoming what was left of our flock. This time, I want them safer, and I want more convenience for myself. Here is my wish list:
Something to assemble, NOT build
Coop inside a...
Another Buff's legs look similar. The first thing I noticed was that the legs look swollen and the toes sort of look like pale, fat worms. At first I thought it was her age, but then I noticed the scales. I looked up SLM photos and gout, but they all looked much more severe or advanced, so it...
Ok, thank you! That is a bummer but honestly we are pretty full up as it is, so any chicks that hatch will be gravy, so to speak. I am really interested to see how she does as a mother. This was not a planned event but we decided to watch and see what happens.
Hi! We have our first ever broody, a Silkie. When she went broody, I marked the four eggs she was sitting on. When I checked on her the other day, there were fourteen eggs! I guess the others are laying in her spot when she gets up once a day? Last night, I candled eight of the newer eggs, and...
hmmm! Well, a.) It's possible that I forgot to carry a one or something; b.), I didn't realize people were raising 7lb birds for the 20 lbs of feed; I thought they would be 4-5lbs. Thank you! I did the math again and it all pencils out. Also, we only have 11, since we did not end up...
We have been keeping layers for 3 years now, but we just hatched 11 Cornish x chicks via an educational program, and hubby wants to try raising them. Feed cost projections are staggering, and we have no shelter for them yet. What are the best tips you veterans have for keeping it simple?
I say they are in good condition. A few of them are still overbred even after removing two roos and adding two hens. But I saw two of those in the nest today.
They are all in good condition. They do free range, but if we are doing good for the breeds we have, I am happy. We recently found a black snake was eating eggs, but the numbers I gave are for after that.
I had gotten up to nine before adding the two Australorps, but I know for a fact at...
I have three Buff Orpingtons, two Australorps, one red something I have never bothered to identify, o one Silkie bantam, one Brahma, one EE, one Golden Laced Wyandotte, and two Silver Laved Wyandottes. So, twelve one-year old hens in all, plus a too. I am getting 8-10 eggs per day, usually 8...
#1
#1 in profile (yellow legs)
#1 in a really cute close-up
#2 This one is bluish in person; black legs
#2, comb view
#3 This one looks a lot like our EE.
#4 This one is reddish.
So is it typical for EEs to look different from other EEs? For example, some have the little crest, some have black legs vs. Green or yellow, some look very red and some have a bluish cast.
Thanks, Jackalope Vigil! I was planning to buy a couple more of those this year, so that is good news. We have one, but she came to us full grown, so I never saw her as a chick:)
