I watched my chickens with the bees. Everyone ignored everyone in my case. The chickens didn't show an interest in watching or eating them. I don't have ducks. The bees around here are very docile. They only pay attention to me when I'm transporting their sugar and corn, though there are...

I have bees as well. I've provided a plastic kids pool for water and a handful of sugar and corn chops for them to snack on. I sure don't want them to die off and if the "feeding station" is far enough away from the chickens, they'll be there, instead of bothering my babies :D There's...

I found one in the nest box with my broody easter egg bantam. He had her head in his mouth, and was trying to get the rest of her. They fell out of the nest together onto the ground outside. I ran and got a cinder block and dropped it on the snakes midsection. Then I ran in the house, got a...

My only GP died of a heart attack a couple of months ago. Such sweet dogs....and when he "woffed" we all paid attention :D Yep, you're gonna need another!

You're right about shooting the coyotes, but like had been mentioned, people aren't usually around when they strike. This same ranch had to get rid of a herd of goats because even though they had Great Pyrenees guard dogs, the coyotes were double teaming the dogs to keep them busy, and yet...

That's the problem with poison and why I keep my 6 dogs in a fenced yard despite owning 30 acres. A huge ranch close to me uses poison and their property is completely fenced. They figure if a dog manages to get past the fence and gets poisoned, it's not their problem. I have mixed feelings...

Around here people put poison out to kill the coyotes, who are killing livestock. That's another possibility. Should the vultures find the poison first, they die....they may even die if they eat a coyote that's died of poisoning. Bet your chickens are fine.

I lived in Irving a number of years, and was able to hire a "pet sitter" to help with the animals when I had to be gone. Might ask a vet, Petsmart, etc if they know of anyone reliable.

Thank you, I will get some of the Snake-B-Gon next time I'm at the store....I bet the livestock feed stores will carry it. I always had the live and let live attitude toward snakes. Now I realize that they don't operate the same way. I'm just sad to learn it this way.

I have some sad news to report. Friday when I was feeding the chickens, I missed my sweet little easter egger bantam, so I went to the back of the coop and raised the door to the next boxes, and before I got it completely open, a snake curled around my sweet little girl fell to the ground...

StelleKitten.... You might look for farriers in your area. My farrier charges $35 for a "house call" Many of them do all sorts of hooves other than equine. My horse and donkey are really struggling now too with so much wetness. Be sure your feeding station is not in the low spots, they'll...

Have you considered fermented feed? I feed it and all of my birds are heavier than others I see on the site. I always heard it was something you should feed "meaties", but I'm a vegetarian and feed it to all my chicks. You can search it on BYC, there's a lot of information out there on it...

Yes, I almost wrap it in wire mesh if I'm not going to use plywood or something to cover it. I have taken many many trips to Home Depot for lumber from the seconds piles. (More than half off around here). Also you can order much cheaper wire mesh from Amazon (I have prime so free shipping to my...

I use wire mesh in any opening except the door....even over eaves openings. Since I live in the forest I also bury wire around the entire exterior so critters don't get in. On this coop, on the front I have that clear plastic "roofing?" that can slide in a track so it can be taken off and on...

I have built all my coops from pallets....but they may be a bit crude for your liking. Here's a few pictures.... This is the base, and the other two are the front and back. I don't take the boards off, I use the pallets whole. I cut a hole in the base and install a ladder so the...

I believe it's time to "counter complain" about their son disturbing the peace with his saw and music.... stressing out your guineas, making them louder. It won't do much good, but at least they need to know that being a good neighbor is a two way proposition. (I wouldn't suggest this if they...

    Growing fodder for chickens

You can usually find it on Ebay. I found some fairy moss there, which can also be used as feed.
