Our local meetup group (STL) has been talking a lot lately about loud hens. We started a Google poll to see if we can spot any breeds that are especially noisy. If you have a noisy hen, take the poll and we'll see if any good info comes out of it...
Thank you everyone for putting my mind at ease, two of our chicks just started doing this and the first hit on google was gapeworm. Freaked me out, good to hear that it might just be run-of-the-mill chicken weirdness.

We currently have 3 big-bodied brown egg-layers and a fairly low (48") fence that keeps them in their run. We'd like to add a white egg layer, but it seems that white egg-layers are more likely to fly. We'd love to get Hamburgs or similarly small-bodied breeds.

We had a red tail sitting on our fence a couple of days ago. No attacks on our chickens, but we have found two doves that a hawk has been at. It's definitely made us think twice about letting our pullets free-range while we're not there.
Just an update:
I went ahead and bought two new pullets that were approximately the same age as our original two. We introduced them in their new outdoor run all at the same time and everything went swimmingly. A few pecks, a few flapped wings and everybody is getting along fine.
I'm in a similar situation. I'd like to pick up two more chickens to add to my two 6 week old pullets. I can either pick up chickens of a similar age or go with chicks and raise them in a brooder separately. We just finished their outdoor housing this weekend, so we're planning on moving the...
