I went ahead and changed them over to pellets today, and they seem to be eating them. Although they seem to eat anything and everything. My wife has been selling the eggs to her friends for $3.00. That means I may break even in about a year and a half. Thanks for all the input.

What exactly is the difference between layer crumbles and pellets? I have been getting eggs for about the last month and have them on crumbles. Do I need to switch to pellets at some point or are both feeds the same? I would be lost without this forum.
Probaby a dumb question but , How do you know what bird layed which egg. Do they always lay in the same place or do I have to set there and watch them. I just got my first egg this afternoon and do not have a clue which one of the 24 laid it.

What a surprise I got today as I unexpectedly got my first egg, a perfect full size brown egg. The chickens are just 18 weeks (Aug 14 ) old and according to what I read here this seems really early.
My question is: Should I switch them over to layer food, based on this one egg, or wait to see...
