Went to get the chickens out this morning and found fort Knox covered in raccoon prints. All over the roof and around the sides, nice to have fresh snow to see them in. No damage, no injuries. Just wanted to let others know the predators are out there still. I set up my game cam again.
People say where we live is rural Maine as well. All lots around here are 8-10 acres. I had a rooster with the habit of crowing at 3am everyday. For the sake of my neighbors, I found the guy a new home north of Bangor where I think rural still might exist. We live in an area that use to be a...
Roof vents alone will not come close to what you do need. Here is a great article on venting, well worth the read.

Our coops are similar so I thought I would share how mine is ventilated. The vents in the pictures are the same front and back, I also kept windows open as well, and still had a frost bite problem last winter. A coops needs lots of air, but with no breeze on the hens.

Now i have a parmak mark 8 with 6 joules and the same grounding system. The deer keep...
I have suspected a raccoon lurking around for quite a while, finally got a picture. Our chicken coop is very secure, I think it was tested by a raccoon last year. My question is how common is it to see just one? Once this one is gone I of course intend to watch for more, but with just one in the...
Does anybody have an interest, or know of anybody interested in a Buff Brahma Rooster? We just don't want a rooster right now. He is very respectful of us, and quite docile. He was acquired from Meyer's and was a sexing error of theirs. He is 22 wks today. Please pm if interested.
Lots of good construction information to found in BYC. When in doubt try the search portion and find great articles about ventilation like this one: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/chicken-coop-ventilation-go-out-there-and-cut-more-holes-in-your-coop. I do not think your ventilation is...
