Here's our Houdan chick all grown up! It's not very bright - gets stuck on the roost every morning :). Well a back shot to show the sheen, she won't hold still!
We have 2 10 week old Easter Egger (Olive Eggers?) Their mom was a splash Blue Marans and the Dad was a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana.
Any thoughts on gender? The only way to tell them apart is that Rosie is starting to grow a white beard. I guess you'd call them black? They have a greenish...
There could end up being 3, but one hatched last night! She's in a regular nesting box in our coop - what should I do now? Are they OK to stay there? (I have another broody beside her). The other laying hens usually try to get in that box to lay throughout the day, and I don't want the babe...
My girl seems to be moving off the nest to let the other hens lay (since she is in the favourite box) and then pops back on - Also, our little 16 week old bantam cochin is choosing to sleep with her at night instead of on the roost. So funny!
We got 2 Olive Egger chicks today! The Dad is a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana Roo and the Mom is a Splash Blue Maran (without feathered feet) One Baby is either going to be dark blue/black and the other could end up a splash!
My Blue Maran hen has been sitting on eggs quite a bit over the last 2 weeks. She'll sit on the eggs but then seems to get up to let the other hens lay theirs. (It's the favourite nest of course.) We don't have a rooster, so we keep taking them all away from her. Last night she was still...
Question!
My friend has a blue wheaten ameraucana rooster, and a blue splash maran pullet - would they create olive egger babies? Or does the Mom have to be a blue layer?
I've never watched a hen lay before - this is a pullet that laid 6 eggs for us in Jan, went in to moult and then for the first time today took an hour to fuss and make 3 nests this afternoon. When I checked on her she looked like this- it looks like she is in labour, is that normal? I looked...
My 3- 9 week old chicks are happily integrated in to the flock now! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my little frizzled cochin - she's so funny when she runs. :) My EEs chase them away from food, but the coop is big enough and they are starting to get smart at getting in there :)
My lavender orpington started laying last Sunday and she layed 6 eggs in 7 days!!! So excited - they are a pale tan/pinky colour. My BCM and Blue Copper Maran both started squatting for me today as well. The BLRW has started getting a comb and pinking up. Even one of my EEs has started to...
